Inverness Caledonian Thistle vs Partick Thistle
Scottish Championship, KO: 19:45 May 6, 2022, Caledonian StadiumCALEY THISTLE staged a fine comeback win against Partick Thistle on Tuesday and are favourites to complete the job on Friday night and set up a clash with Championship runners-up Arbroath.
Billy Dodds' side looked in trouble when they went a goal down, but a goalkeeping error by the normally reliable Jamie Sneddon allowed Shane Sutherland to equalise and Austin Samuels grabbed a late winner to send the visiting fans back to the Highlands in fine spirits.
It wasn't a huge surprise though with Inverness in far better recent form than the Glasgow Jags. Ian McCall's men have won just two of their last ten games now and their form has dropped off a cliff at just the wrong time of the season.
But Inverness have now won three games in a row and seem to be hitting form in time for the play-offs. Momentum is with ICT.
Of course, Partick Thistle are the Great Unpredictables for a reason and they can never be written off, but they have to produce something special to still be in the hunt for promotion come the weekend.
How the bookies view it
The hosts are favourites at 13/10 with William Hill. The Firhill side can be backed at 12/5 with Coral and the draw is 23/10 with bet365.
Recent head to heads
Inverness mounted that comeback win on Tuesday at Firhill as can be seen below. It was their fifth meeting of the season and ICT have won twice, Partick once and there have been two draws.
Players to watch
Austin Samuels was a flop on loan at Aberdeen during the first half of the season and was quietly punted back to Wolves. But he seems to be having more fun at Inverness and scored a fine goal on Tuesday in Maryhill. He's 16/5 to score with McBookie.com on Friday.
Brian Graham was on a fabulous run for Thistle this season earlier in the season and was banging goals in for fun to take his tally to 18 for the season by February. But he's on a night, are draught of 12 games without a goal. Surely that has to end soon and he is 11/5 to score anytime with McBookie.com
Anything else catch the eye?
Inverness look to have the tools here to finish Partick off in front of their own fans. Thistle have stopped scoring and winning. It's 16 games since they scored more than one goal and the efforts of playing on a quagmire of a pitch for most of the season appear to have sapped their energy.
ICT can take advantage of a Thistle defence that looks bereft of confidence and they can score at least twice at 6/4 with bet365.
