Bordeaux vs PSGFrench Ligue 1, KO: 20:00 Mar 3, 2021, Stade Matmut-Atlantique
Paris Saint-Germain continue their title defence as they travel to the Stade Matmut-Atlantique for a French Ligue 1 clash against Bordeaux. The Parisians are looking to keep up the pressure on league leaders Lille and should have too much quality for a struggling Bordeaux side.
Mauricio Pochettino is quickly learning that Ligue 1 is no walk in the park with PSG playing catch-up to Lille and Lyon. The champions have been inconsistent in recent weeks as they followed up an impressive Champions League victory over Barcelona with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Monaco.
PSG made a swift return to winning ways last time out as they claimed a 4-0 victory at Dijon in their previous Ligue 1 outing. Kylian Mbappe scored a brace while further goals from Moise Kean and Danilo Pereira helped them secure the win.
Despite their recent faltering, PSG remain one of the form teams in Ligue 1 with seven wins in their last nine matches.
They have also impressed on their travels and head into Wednesday’s clash off the back of two straight away wins.
Bordeaux are coming off a 2-1 home defeat to Metz in their previous Ligue 1 outing. They failed to build on an early Samuel Kalu goal and conceded twice in the second half, including a 90th minute winner.
Jean-Louis Gasset's men have been poor lately having suffered six defeats in their last seven matches. Their recent struggles mean they have been on a steady decline down the table and now sit in the bottom half.
Their home form has also been less than stellar with three defeats in their last four matches in all competitions at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique. Goals have also been a problem in recent weeks as they have found the net just once in their last four matches.
How the bookies view it
Bordeaux’s poor form means I am siding with PSG to secure an away victory on Wednesday.
Head to head
PSG have 24 wins while Bordeaux have been victorious 19 times from 59 previous matches. Both teams have battled to 16 stalemates, including a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at the Parc des Princes in November.
The Parisians have the upper hand in recent fixtures as they are unbeaten in the last 12 meetings. They claimed a 1-0 victory on their last visit to the Stade Matmut-Atlantique.
Players to watch
Kylian Mbappe netted his 18th goal of the season last time out and remains the biggest attacking threat for PSG. Vbet has the forward at 8/11 to score anytime while also offering 11/4 for the first goal.
Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu scored his fourth goal of the season last time out and is backed at 7/2 by bet365 in the anytime goalscorer market. Bet365 also has striker Jimmy Briand at 13/5 in the same market.
Anything else catch the eye?
PSG have kept clean sheets in their last two away matches and are priced at 31/25 by Sporting Index for a repeat on Wednesday. The Parisians are also backed at odds of 39/25 by Sporting Index to secure a win to nil.
With PSG often dominant in their matches, a handicap bet could also be worth a punt on Wednesday. A -1 handicap on the Parisians is valued at 27/20 by novibet.
A win/score combination on Kylian Mbappe could also be considered with bet365 offering 11/10.
