After crashing out of the Champions League, AC Milan turn their attention to the top four race in Serie A as they host bottom side Sampdoria on Saturday. The visitors have been the worst team in the league this season and should be no match for AC Milan, who have done some good work at San Siro lately.
AC Milan are going through a rough time at the moment as they head into Saturday’s clash with three straight defeats. They crashed out of the Champions League after a 1-0 second leg defeat to Inter Milan on Tuesday and were also beaten 2-0 at Spezia in their previous Serie A fixture.
The only positive about crashing out of the Champions League is that AC Milan can turn their full attention to the top four race in Serie A. The Rossoneri are currently fifth on the table, four points off the pace with three matches left the play.
AC Milan have done some good work at home in recent weeks as they have lost just once in their last 10 matches at San Siro. Stefano Pioli’s men have also kept clean sheets in three of the last four matches in that run and claimed a 2-0 victory over Lazio in their previous home fixture.
Sampdoria are only playing for pride at the moment of the season after their relegation was confirmed a few weeks back. They have spent much of the campaign rooted to the bottom of the standings and with three matches left to play, can finish no higher than 19th.
With the worst already confirmed and the pressure seemingly off, results have still not improved for Sampdoria in recent weeks. Dejan Stankovic’s men have claimed just one win in their last 19 Serie A matches although they did play out a 1-1 draw with Empoli in their previous fixture.
One of the things that hampered Sampdoria throughout the season is an abysmal away record that appears to have no end in sight. They are winless in their last nine matches, failing to score six times in that run.

The bookies have installed AC Milan as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at 1/7 by Paddy Power. An unlikely victory for Sampdoria is valued at 18/1 by Coral while a draw is set at odds of 6/1 by Unibet.

AC Milan have a 33-12 advantage with 10 draws from 55 previous matches against Sampdoria. The Rossoneri have also won the last three meetings and claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in September.
Players to watch
Rafael Leao made his return from injury in the Champions League on Tuesday and will be the one to watch on Sunday. The forward remains the leading scorer for AC Milan with 12 goals and could be backed to find the net om Saturday at 5/4 with Unibet.
AC Milan have also maintained a solid defensive record at the San Siro with Fikayo Tomori often featuring at centre-back. Having had a shutout in three of their last four home matches, they could be backed to keep another clean sheet at 8/13 with bet365.
