Lille vs ValenciaUEFA Champions League, KO: 20:00 Oct 23, 2019, Stade Pierre Mauroy
LILLE'S form has deserted them and their last-16 hopes will be all but over if they suffer a third straight Group H defeat to remain pointless at the halfway stage.
The French side opened with a thumping 3-0 defeat at Ajax before a 2-1 home loss to Chelsea left their hopes hanging by a thread.
That Blues defeat weakened Lille's impressive home record – they had won eight in a row on their own patch and lost just one of 14 – but it contributed to a shaky recent run that's seen them claim just one victory in seven.
The fact both sides are priced around the 7-4 mark shows bookies are struggling to separate them. But while Lille have gone off the boil, Valencia are enjoying something of a purple patch with just one defeat in seven, most recently taking a point away to Atletico Madrid last weekend.
After the upheaval of a controversial managerial change – Marcelino was sacked to make way for Albert Celades – Los Che have steadied the ship.
They got off to a flier in Group H with a 1-0 triumph at Chelsea but their next Champions League outing ended in a 3-0 loss to home to Ajax, a sobering reminder of how dipping below your standards is mercilessly punished by Europe's top sides.
They are out to make amends in France and, considering they have won at Chelsea and Athletic Bilbao and drawn at Atletico in their last three away games, Valencia will tempt some punters at 44-25 with Marathonbet, likewise the 97-100 draw no bet.
A bet I like here is the 2-3 match goals market. This has landed in nine of Lille's last 10 and four of six for the visitors, and in a tight encounter it offers plenty of options for a narrow win either way or draw.
This UEFA Champions League match between Lille and Valencia will be played on Oct 23, 2019 and kick off at 20:00
