Top Football Tips

SPURS look to have hit a wall with three successive defeats and it could be No.4 on Tuesday night.

A thrilling Champions League semi-final first leg is in prospect and I'm backing Ajax to get a positive result – win or draw – on the way to reaching the Final.

The Dutch have dazzled in the knockout stages with stunning away wins at Real Madrid and Juventus and are unbeaten on the road in the Champions League including visits to Munich and Lisbon in the group stage.

It could be a good time to face Spurs who looked jaded on Saturday and have problems up front. Harry Kane is still injured and Heung-Min Son's ban is a hammer blow so Mauricio Pochettino will go with Lucas Moura or Fernando Llorente – or possibly play a false No.9.

Ajax, well rested after being given the weekend off, are 19-10 at bet365 to win and 11-13 at sportingbet to reach the Final.

Spurs are 8-5 with Betfred to triumph at their new home and 11-10 at sportingbet to make the Final for a possible all-English meeting with Liverpool.

Both teams to score pays 4-6 at Ladbrokes but Spurs have netted just once in three games since knocking out Man City.

As Ajax are underdogs for acca purposes you can have them not to lose at 4-7 at McBookie or draw no bet at 23-20 with Marathonbet.

Dusan Tadic has been immense and the ex-Southampton, who takes a mean pen, is 23-10 at unibet to add to his 32 goals this season and 6-1 at Betfred to net first.

Elsewhere there are five games in England with two big ones in League One – Fleetwood v Sunderland and Portsmouth v Peterborough. Portsmouth need a win to have any chance of catching Luton or Barnsley in the race for automatic promotion.

Sunderland look set for the play-offs as they are six points off the top two with an inferior goal difference so need a big victory.

In the Championship Bristol City must win at Millwall, who are now safe from the drop, to keep alive their slim play-off hopes.

Bury need a point at Tranmere to clinch promotion from League Two – that's because Mansfield meet MK Dons in their final fixture – but if the home men succeed they'll have a chance of finishing second or third so this could be a fascinating battle.

The other game sees Newport at home to Oldham and the home men will climb from 11th into seventh with a victory and putting a play-off spot in their own hands. Back them at 3-4 with Ladbrokes and bet365.

Newport have beaten Lincoln and Bury in their last two at Rodney Parade and face a side with no chance of the play-offs after losing at Exeter at the weekend.

It's the final day of the month so I'm looking to finish at least 40 points up – and try to it again in May. The Super Single is sitting at -1pt and I'd like to wipe that out – and the way to do it could be with a double on Portmsmouth and Newport so let's do it.

My only other bet is an over 2.5 goals double on Portsmouth v Peterborough and Montpellier v PSG. It's 3pts on so I'll either finish the month 40pts up or it will be nearer to 50. HullShaker is tipping goals at Tranmere v Bury so if you like that tip add it to make a treble.

Monday's treble was a Betis goal short on a quiet night but well done to all the winners.

Remember to check welovebetting for their video chat and tips.

Really looking forward to this one. Spurs v Ajax.

Ajax have been a breath of fresh air and it’s such a shame that the likes of De Jong, De Ligt, van de Beek, Neres and Ziyech will probably all move on in the summer.
Equally though Spurs deserve a lot of plaudits, Poch has done a great job. Whoever wins this semi-final will be the underdog in the final and I hope either Spurs or Ajax can go on to lift the trophy.

Normally these first leg games are quite cagey affairs but Ajax will be mindful they’ve beaten Juventus and Real on away goals and I’d expect them to have a go at Spurs. Spurs could be content to sit in like they did at home to Man City.
I’d fancy Ajax to grab a couple of away goals and in what could be a potential cracker.
    I’m going 2-1 to Ajax.

As much as I admire Ajax as a youthful and fearless side, along with their slayings of Madrid and Juventus, I cant help but feel Spurs are being overlooked here. Real Madrid are a shadow of themselves, failing to win in 12 of their games since January…Juventus have also had a dismal 2019 by their own standards, conceding over 20 goals since January. Two tired looking heavyweights of the game got taught a real lesson by a young, fearless and attacking Ajax team. Had Son been available for this match I’d have been all over Spurs at 8/5. This is a side who just eliminated Peps Man City. Yes the forms been poor domestically but with one eye on a semi final against Ajax it’s understandable. However with the two main goal threats being unavailable for Spurs it’s definitely looking like a no bet game. Lucas Moura will come in and on his day he can be unplayable. Should be interesting.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

I think without Kane and Son they could hand the edge to Ajax but I agree it would be daft to write them off.

    • kyle b 5 years ago

I’d give Vincent Janssen a start tonight against his Dutch counterparts, very unlikely to happen I know but think he deserves an opportunity and this is the right sort of game to give him the nod given Spurs current striking options.

    • imitationleather 5 years ago

Janssen isn’t part of the Champions League squad so he can’t play.

I do think people are under-estimating Spurs here. I’ve been very impressed with Ajax, but as has been said Juventus and Real Madrid are definitely on a downward trajectory. This season the English clubs in the Champions League just look a lot fresher and more difficult to beat, so I think Ajax will face a sterner test tonight. That said with the injures it’s a very close one to call and even with my Tottenham loyalties I wouldn’t like to predict what might happen.

  17. rosscoleman94 5 years ago

    Morning all,

It will be a very interesting game this evening between spurs and Ajax. I think skybet and their player stat markets sometimes offers great value.

Just a quick question to all readers – how many people use/look at the player stat markets to find a good bet? Would be interesting to hear from other bettors if the player stat market is something which is used/considered?

Nevertheless, Dusan Tadic to have at least 1 shot on target is 8/13 with at least 2 being 11/4.

Tadic takes a great penalty however he is a constant threat and I like the value of him to have at least one shot on target at 8/13.

Spurs could go back 4 but wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if they went with 3 centre halves and their two wing backs. Any how, I still fancy Tadic to get shots away and I hope one will at least hit the target.

Looking forward to hearing from other bettors regarding the player stat market!

Bristol’s trip to Millwall tonight is a tough call. I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs even if Derby lose both of their games – I don’t think they will. Bristol have to lay down a marker for Derby to follow and even though Bristol ended the last match hosting Derby who have been travel shy of late – 2nil down and – 1 player, Bristol were still dangerous. Man of the match was Derby’s keeper Kelle Roose. Derby did miss a few good chances, but Bristol were very dangerous.
I do think Bristol will score tonight, they have to, but you’re right Millwall’s mentality might already have themselves in the departure lounge for their extended holiday in Dubai…. Err, I mean bus station for a weekend in Cleethorpes.
Btts is my call tonight. I saw 8/11 yesterday on bet365.
