IT'S a big night for Nigel Clough and after all last week's FA Cup shocks I wonder if anyone is going for a Burton.
Clough's League One shocktroops face an almost impossible task away to Man City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final and I've posted a separate preview.
Burton are as big as 75-1 at McBookie but I don't see anyone backing them against the champions who made eight changes and still thumped Rotherham 7-0 in the FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola will field a strong side and for me it's a matter of how many they win by. The goal line is set at four so City -3 pays 6-5 at Paddy Power and City -2 is one for accas at 4-9 with Ladbrokes and bet365.
Elsewhere it's Chelsea U-21s at home to Peterborough in the EFL Trophy and there are Spanish Cup games including Girona v Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid v Leganes. In the French League Cup we have Monaco v Rennes and PSG v Guingamp.
For the likes of PSG teams need to be checked but they usually go strong and should be covering the -2 handicap like City. PSG are untouchable in France and remain unbeaten. They have netted 30 league goals in nine at home and 33 in their last 10 at home to Ligue 1 basement boys Guingamp.
For a Super Single I'm taking a chance on Man City -2 and PSG -2 Asian at evens – should land as long as PSG play at least one of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
My Top Treble is extremely risky on cup ties in France and Spain. Start with Rennes not to lose at Monaco in the French League Cup. The sides are in contrasting form with Thierry Henry unable to get Monaco out of trouble and they've won just one out of their last 20 at home.
Henry's boosted by the signing of Cesc Fabregas but he won't join until the summer when he is really needed now. Rennes are on a run of six Ligue 1 wins and will head to the principality full of confidence and should at least avoid defeat – unless they play their stiffs.
That's the concern with all cup games so again I'll say check teams if you can before placing the bet. My other two are Getafe at home to Real Valladolid and Real Madrid at home to Leganes.
Getafe were impressive in losing 2-1 to Barcelona at the weekend and are enjoying a good season while Valladolid are as usual struggling.
It's must-win for Real with boss Santiago Scolari on the brink after a 2-0 home defeat to Real Sociedad left them down in fifth and trailing Barcelona by 10. This could be Real's best chance of a trophy and they can't slip with the first leg at home.
Tuesday's treble was another near miss with my 43-10 effort needing a Newcastle Under-21s goal at Sunderland.

Goaltime for me is ridiculously low, can’t see Burton being pushed aside as easy as Rotherham, prices on goals has been hammered in and Sean did the right thing taking the early prices if you believe there is going to be a goalfest. For me, Burton will be difficult to breakdown in early stages and City may struggle to find there rhythm. I think something along the lines of a 3-0 City win with most goals 2nd half.
As long as City go strong which looks a cert I reckon they’ll score more than four.
Home advantage is huge as is the fact Pep will want this over at the first time of asking.

Undoubtedly City will be strong, they have 2 or more players for every position bar a like for like replacement for Fernandinho, no one in the English league has better squad depth than them but I feel the prices are reflective of the 7-0 mauling over Rotherham with the expectation that if they can do it too Championship opposition then they could do the same to a league one outfit. Key differences for me are that Burton are looking to compete, won’t be short on confidence and will possess a better defensive structure in comparison. This is gonna be the biggest game of those players careers and will be capable of limiting the scoreline.

Sorry Kyle but I’m just not buying into that, these players that you say will compete are in league one for a reason and being able too compete with one of the best footballing sides in Europe ain’t one of them. Players like David Templeton and Liam Boyce in a squad that will ‘compete’ with the likes of De Bruyne and Fernandinho,trust me I know both Burton players well and they won’t be much competition for Citys stars. I’ll be stunned if City don’t dismantle a poor Burton side that will offer little resistance except for free kicks and parking the bus. I personally fear for Burton tonight and their record defeat in a cup game will be run close, that result was a 7-0 loss too Charlton in an FA Cup tie. Don’t forget this is a Burton(81) side that had the 2nd worst defence in the top 4 divisions in England last season, only Chesterfield(83) conceded more. City(106) were the highest scorers last season in league goals and are highest scorers this season too with 56. Each too their own though
Agree that Burton will offer little to no attacking threat at the Etihad, be lucky to score 1 across the 2 legs but the aim at the Etihad will be to stifle City and keep the tie alive for the return leg. Easier said than done, City will likely boast 80+% possession and countless opportunities on goal, my pick reflects where I think the value lies, Burton will have bundles of energy in the opening 45 but likely to run out of steam in 2nd. When I mentioned “compete” I was referring to the fact that it was an unwanted fixture for Rotherham and they was always going to get demolished whilst Burton will have plenty of fight tonight. I’m probs the only one on site that thinks this but I expect Burton too keep the score respectable.
I think 3-0 or 4-0 would be respectable – anything better would be a great result.
