Top Football Tips

LIONEL MESSI put on a show to destroy Liverpool and all but end their hopes of Champions League glory.

All night I thought Jurgen Klopp's men needed an away goal and that became more obvious when hit 2-0 then 3-0.

And of course they had plenty of chances to score especially near the end when Mo Salah smashed the post from six yards with the goal gaping.

That was the one that got away and also beat my both to score double that also included Swansea v Derby.

Barca are almost certain to score at Anfield and there's no way Liverpool are going to beat them 5-1.

Enjoyed the game much better than Spurs v Ajax and it's difficult to now see Barca failing to lift the trophy.

Well done to all the winners last night and there were plenty of them. Kevinmac had a 13-2 winner on Luis Suarez to score and Barca to win.

Tonight's it's the turn of the Europa League with Arsenal facing the easier task at home to Valencia and Chelsea having a tough test against high-scoring Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

Arsenal are a powerhouse at home while Valencia aren't the best of travellers so I'm backing the Gunners to take a lead to Spain. Unai Emery, chasing a fourth EL success, has seen his side win their three group games at home and beat Napoli 2-0 at the Emirates in the previous round.

Kevinmac has more detailed thoughts and stats on his Arsenal vs Valencia match preview so check it out.

Eintracht v Chelsea is tougher to call and SlipsTips has posted a comprehensive preview here.

I was originally going for goals I've decided to take Eintracht not to lose. Chelsea are favourites to go through and I'm sure they'd be happy with a draw – especially a scoring one.

The Germans are hampered by the absence of Croat forward Ante Rebic but they have another class act in the shape of Luka Jovic who has netted eight in the tournament. He is 11-2 at bet365 to score first.

Not much else to look at although there is a National League play-off semi-final first leg between Wrexham and Eastleigh. Wrexham finished 10 points ahead of their rivals and beat them by two goals home and away.

They had the best home record in the division – 15 wins from 18 – ahead of the likes of champions Orient and Fylde and should win tonight. However, they are just 4-6 so I'm taking a chance on them covering the -1 handicap for the third time this season as a Super Single.

Remember to check welovebetting for their video chat and tips.

Na Maradona n that’s not a fact mate its your opinion. He something else but the boy! Free kick was a doozy.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

There will always be a debate. For people of an older generation than me it’s Pele hands down.
For others it’s Maradona or Ronaldo. I’d go with Messi but some people will say he needs to win something for Argentina to have that honour.

    • jim burnside 5 years ago

recoba unless ur stevie wonder. messi is the worlds best ever and that is a fact.

Messi’s a great but between the pair its Ronaldo for me

    • recoba 5 years ago

Cue a speil Jim Burndide, read it or not sir! 😉👍
Stevie Wonder,Have you seen his wife? Neithers he! Have you watched enough about or of Maradona?
Anyway sorry but is say Na..if Maradona had the protection players have these days he would have been even better and that’s a thought.
Also do you think IF Messi moved to a relegation threatened unfashionable team in Italy like he did (Napoli) lets say for example Genoa or Bologna,he would spur them on to 2x consecutive league titles,Napoli’s first ever I think and a Eufa Cup?? I can’t see it..especially in Italy, just look back at the Juve n AC Milan teams he and Napoli beat to they titles.
Maradona at the time had the worlds best defenders in the best league imo to compete against who didn’t just try to hit him hard,at times it was to try get him stretchered off or worse…some of the tackles he leaps over or evades on route to scoring stunning goal were ridiculous…they’d be reds just for intent these days. You should try get a grip of a few DVDs,biography types and just watch his bravery on the pitch at his size, the skill to get away from players was outstanding and granted he only had maybe 6/7 class years in Europe but I go back to the what if?
He never had the guidance or help like Messi, he was still taking the bus to his games for Vele Sarsfield at 17 while Messi at 14 plus his family we’re being taken to Barcalona, treated great with everything paid for along with him being given growth supplements and anything else to make him one of the greatest we will ever see.
Diego was doing it all with really only help from his dad in the form of a pair of boots….i could ON AND ON AND ON but i already have! 😉👍
PS he was in his time the best FK taker about

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

I’m one of those who believes you can’t compare eras.
It’s unfair to put up Messi v Maradona. Imagine them both in the same team.
Picking your GOAT is all about personal opinion and as I said it’s Messi for me but at the time it was Maradona and before that would have been Pele.

    • jimba 5 years ago

Maradona for me, Messi is world class no doubt & will be remembered as one of the all time greats but Maradonas achievements at Napoli were amazing off the scale!!

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

Ronaldo for me. Complete athlete, has proven himself at various clubs and scored vital goals and won them the top trophies. I admire Messi’s loyalty (albeit somewhat money driven lol) but nomatter how likely his success at others, without seeing him proven at other clubs it’s still a grey area if he’d be just as good.. also need to see Barca winning CL, rather than just La Liga & Copa Del Rey.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

As characters go I prefer Messi to the much more arrogant Ronaldo.
And let’s not kid ourselves both are doing what’s best for their bank balance.
Messi has four Champions League winners’ medals – one fewer than Ronaldo but probably about to equal him.

Very subjective and to state ‘FACT’ is a nonsense. In the days when there wasn’t wall to wall television coverage players had to be seen live and I was fortunate to see Pele, Eusebio, Cruyff, and many others all who were head and shoulders above the average international player but the guy who stands out was George Best. Part of the game was the now lost art of ‘riding a tackle’ and the phrase ‘you don’t play football on your arse’ was prevalent. Saw him once at Hillsborough and it was Sheffield Wednesday v George Best as the rest of the Manchester United players hardly contributed with Bestie just missing out 5-4 but he was untouchable, scored a hat trick as half the Wednesday players tried and failed to put him into the stand. Another who won’t be suggested on here would be Colin Bell who would be world class today with the protection players get. ( See what I did there – balance for the Manchester fans, should get a job for the BBC!)

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

As you say it’s subjective and to say fact is ridiculous.
Up here I’m always hearing tales of the likes of Jim Baxter and Jimmy Johnstone but I never saw them play.
But looking at old footage they were world-class players.

    • old al 5 years ago

Jimmy Johnstone is on my list

    • sean ireland 5 years ago

Would never put that fake Pele in the same class as Messi,Ronaldo or Maradona for the simple reason his entire career stats are from 2 B rated leagues way below the standard the other 3 greats played. His stats claim he scored 1,283 goals, but 526 goals came in unofficial friendlies and tour games including games he played for the Sixth Coast Guard in a military competition. He never once won the golden boot in any of the 4 World cups he played in.Add in the fact that he refused to even acknowledge the existence of his daughter who died of cancer aged 42 in 2009 tells you a whole lot about the true character of the man who has spent decades hailing himself as the greatest. Pffffttt!!!!

    • mr h 5 years ago

Di Stefano has to be up there. Played in, scored in and won 5 consecutive European Cup finals including a hatrick in the last one in the 7-3 classic with Frankfurt in 1960

My father told me about Jimmy Johnstone then I got jinky video, amazing player world class, my two boys love the video/dvd now recently saying jinky was better than Dalglish & Larsson!!

    • nathanufton 5 years ago

I agree about the fake Pele stats, but with him on the pitch firing on all cylinders, you were probably gonna lose if you faced him. Todays footballers get way too much money, way too much protection and way too much respect. Sure, Ronaldo and Messi are possibly the best of this current era but some people forget the other greats from their own era’s and beyond.
Steve Bloomer ( google him ), Eusebio, Johann Cruyff – they teach his Cruyff turn to the under 9’s all over the world, Rummeniggar, Kempes, Maradonna, there’s dozens of them. What about the greatest career comeback of all time? Henrick Larrson’s career ending leg snap would of consigned most of the modern day ” greats ” to signing autograph’s, hanging on the arm of supermodels and being a footie pundit had it happened to them. Larrson came back and he was twice the player he was before the injury. Given how good he was before, I think that’s some achievement. Nobody ever mentions him or what about Paul Scholes? If you take the money out of the game, how many true greats would we be left with? If you took the modern day greats and dumped them into the 50’s or 60’s taking 2 footed challenges every match, heading a lace-up water soaked leather ball that’s gonna give you concussion, how many great would we have? George Best was a 1 man team, but like some others ruined his life with excess, got a 2nd chance with a liver transplant and then went back on the booze. Paul Gasgoine’s life has started to follow a similar path but will be remembered more for what he did off the pitch – shame. However exaggerated Pele’s stats were, he was probably the first global football icon and probably the first player targeted for a career ending tackle as early as possible. Didn’t that happen to him in 1966?

    • newts68 5 years ago

Never done it on the world stage or at another club. Ronaldos done the business at every club he’s played for and the World Cup and the Euros, for me Ronaldo edges it

    • chelseagirl 5 years ago

Yip i will agree on that he is a handful. Lucky to have seen a lot of players in my time you could agrue all night.Kenny Dalglish is my fav of all time but he was not a player who had tricks up his sleeve those players are like Pele,Maradona,Euesbio,Cruyff,Best and Messi. Never seen any of them live but have seen Jinky,Wullie Johnston,Wullie Henderson,Cooper,Laudrup ,Larrson and Gazza who had plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Most Scots who seen Baxter play say he was the best. Then you have Stan Matthews who played till he was 56 where do you stop.

    Valencia dc
    Frankfurt dc
    7/4 bet 365

The English sides are the favourites for these games which means there’s value in backing Valencia and Frankfurt not to lose. Arsenal are in honking form at the minute and Valencia have been getting better and better as the season goes on, only 3 defeats in their last 20 compared to Arsenal’s 3/3. As I said about the CL a few weeks ago, English teams seem to think their names are on the trophies and then they inevitably get won by the Spanish, so for me it wouldn’t be unexpected to see Valencia not losing Tonight. Frankfurt have been formidable at home in this seasons EL and will know they need to take some sort of lead to London, I can’t see Chelsea turning them over tonight.

Agreed and Kane will be back too. I would suggest Spurs are far more experienced as a squad than the Ajax youth who I would consider are very naïve in their playing style. That was made very apparent when Sissoko came on after 30 minutes

you are spot on when you said there will always be a debate on who is or who was the best football player in the world, imo george best was the best in the world even pele said that himself about georgie.present players you cant seperate ronaldo & messi two different type of players ,but messi haven’t done it for his country like you said ,ronaldo have

If you are saying Best is better than Messi because Messi hasnt won anything with his country then the question is what did Norn Ireland win with Best?As for taking the word of Pele this is the same man who during the 2002 world cup proclaimed that Nicky Butt was the greatest player in the world, think the man sometimes hallucinates from too much ganja!!

Evens knievens you hit the nail on the head mate- they were poor in the last cup comp because the bulk of their side were away with the national team plus xavi was injured. Back to the greatest player ever debate,it is impossible to say who it is, as generations separate the opinions.
Pele scored over 1100 goals (probably never to be achieved by another player)

    Over 5.5mgs 7/2✅
All priced at bet 365. for the punts im expecting the home side to contribute 1 or 2 so it shouldn’t be completely out of the equation to see 6 mgs when you know Al Sadds record this year. GL if you follow

Full house. Al gharafa even managed the 2 I said I expected them to contribute
