SOME people say Saturday's the toughest day to pick winners and that's down to the huge number of games to pick from.
What's certain is the opening Saturday of the season is as difficult as any and the advice is to play with lower stakes than normal until we see some form patterns emerging.
So don't attempt all of my bets and I've gone with fewer picks than I usually do on Saturdays.
I've posted separate English and Scottish previews where most of my picks are reasoned and my antepost picks are on those too.
Last night Derby did the business but I was let down by a surprising lack of goals in Belgium – and that was the case with Greg in French Ligue 2.
Well done to all the winners of Friday and good luck with all of your bets on the opening weekend and remember to take it easy.
Desmond and Scott Allot will be back with goals tips this morning and Greg has already posted his Scottish picks.

??????? Scottish Football Returns ???????
It’s been a short summer with the World Cup, Betfred cup and euro qualifiers keeping us punters occupied and I can’t quite believe the new season is upon us tomorrow
Having looked through the full Scottish card league 1 looks like a lottery with the shortest price team 13/10 – I’ve picked out 2 bets for tomorrow and have thoughts on a couple of the Division 2 matches
Hamilton v Hearts KO 3pm
Every season when predictions are out on who will finish bottom , Hamilton are usually everyone’s pick ( including mine ) but every year they prove the doubters wrong. They have lost a lot of key players during the summer though and I can’t see it being anything other than a long hard slog. Craig Levein has made no fewer than 14 signings this season at Hearts they look stronger than last season.
Hamilton have laid a new pitch so hopefully the advantage they usually hold over teams by playing on plastic won’t be evident here.
Taking the Jambo’s to edge this and get their new season off to a winner. They have better players and a better squad than a Hamilton team who will struggle this season
Back Hearts to WIN 47/50 (MarathonBet) (NAP)

League 2 Previw
Annan v Elgin
It was a miserable Betfred cup for Gavin Price and his Elgin team. They lost all 4 games without scoring and face a long treck down to Galabank. Elgin’s away form last season was brutal and the worst in the league and it’s not surprising with the amount of traveling they do.
Annan are a tough team to beat at home and they were unbeaten in their two home Betfred cup games against Hamilton and and Stranraer and I’m taking them to continue Elgin’s early season woes
Clyde v Cowdenbeath
One thing that has really surprised me is Clyde managing to retain the services of David Goodwillie – the striker could without doubt be playing at a higher level and having scored 25 goals last season they have done well to keep him. Danny Lennon has also brought in experienced journeyman John Rankin who’ll be a good addition at this level – they competed well against better opposition in the league cup and should go well this season
Cowdenbeath kept their senior league status by the skin of their teeth last season and it will be another tough season ahead for them
Annan Double Chance
Clyde to WIN
Double pays 5/4 (Bet365)
Will be staying away from accas until we see some form.
Sticking with the mls on Saturday, current champions Toronto have won back to back games the first time this season and are looking to make it 3 in a row, unfortuanetly they couldnt get a tougher game away to this seasons favs Atlanta.
Toronto will be looking to get that 3rd win in a row and lay down a marker to show the league that they mean business and are still in with a shout of retaining their crown. Atlanta will be looking to put their own stamp to show the league that no one will get in their path towards the mls cup, not even the current champs.
Expect goals, btts + o2.5 – 8/11
Hitman Martinez cant stop scoring and Giovinco is hitting form now playing further wide with Altidore fit. Might be worrh pricing both to score.

Sunday, Rangers travel up to Aberdeen, could not ask for a better game to kickstart the league season. Both teams have been fighting it our for 2nd place recently, infact Rangers cost me 1.8k from a free £5 last season not finishing 2nd, anyway both will be looking to to show thay they mean business. Rangers are looking solid and i think will do a job on Aberdeen, the price has shortened over the week especially aftwr Aberdeen went into extra time, ive seen 7/5 on a few sites but may be able to get slightly bigger.
My main bet on the game will be Shinnie to be carded, he loves a card in a big game and especially against Rangers, booked in all 4 games last season. Skybet priced up at 11/8 but im waiting for hills/betfair/365 to price before placing. Ryan Jack is 2/1 to be carded, got sent off returning to his former team he captained last season.
Will be looking to price up a rab of both teams corners/cards as there should be plenty. Will post on Sunday.
3/1 both to score

One morning effort in Oz. Couldn’t split between some of the selections so taking a chance on the treble. Then a punt in Hungary where Ferencvaros have started the season ominously. I was hesitant to touch the British games given there’s no form to go on, but I couldn’t resist a little O1.5 Match Goals bet with the prices being a little better than they probably will be in a few weeks time.

Mate Ive been a disgrace today. About to make a post about it. Feel very confident about this one to claw something back. I’m so sorry.
We are taking a big hit today guys. I know most of you are playing with profit, but today is unacceptable and most of the plays are my misjudgements.
Hope you understand this stuff is hard and judge me at the end of the month.
We had a day like this last month and came back.
Everyone has good and bad days. As long as you do the research and don’t put up rash tips you’ll do well long term.
When you play around with the units as I do, you always risk days like this, where everything goes wrong in every way and every result goes wrong. But the system is balanced to work long-term. We are still up 130 units overall. But down probably about 14 for this month, will confirm tomorrow.
Thanksfor the support and
Can only apologise again but hope you all see it how I do, that as long as we are up at the end of the month that’s the main thing.

Every single bet lost, not seen anything like it. Had bets losing from 1/10 on 3 occasions today…
Konta, set points, was 1/10, Bencic match points was 1/16, Rockies last inning were 1/10…

That’s why I always set my auto cash out for about 90-95% as I been caught out to many times at match point and good cash outs to lose the lot, head up @tennisace
That’s perfect, sadly not everyone does the same. Feel awful this morning genuinely. But will go again
You lost a bet get over it.
@maccathered is right but more direct,no one bets to lose especially if other people lose by following,it makes it twice as worst but remember people have their own choices whether to follow,I like most in here know no matter how easy it looks these things happen,i remember years ago I spent about 2 hours researching, did the bet&it ended 0-0,I was so certain, threw my money on it,I was stumped but it’s events at that time that count but guess what,it didn’t put me off it just made me more determined-anyway bookie is still winning but I have the odd occasions when I can stick my two fingers up at em,not often but when I do it’s a GREAT feeling, keep positive @tennisace
Didnt even see this. I dont care if I lose a bet at all. I care about the guys following losing their bet because of my pick. Especially when 95% of them have been so supportive. Thanks @lockhart hope you got on the 2 winners so far

Aussie Queensland Premier league double – Magpie Crusaders to score both halves & Cairns FC O1.5tgs @ 6.21/1
Brisbane have quite a horrendous away record in the last 6, losing 5 of them and conceding 19 goals in the process. In 4 of those fixtures they conceded 3 or more! The Magpies have won 3 of their last 6 at home and in each of those games scored exactly 3. I’m hoping today they can do so again with goals on either side of the break.
Little needs said about Western Pride, the league’s top scorers and probable winners today. However, Cairns away form is not to be sniffed at. With 4 wins in the last 6 and 18 goals in the process I think they can score at least once today, but hopefully twice to bring in a nice double.
Good luck

UFC 227 TIPS
TJ Dillashaw vs Cody Garbrandt – Fight to go the distance – No – 2/5
Demetrious Johnson to beat Henry Cujada via KO/TKO/Sub/Dsq – 5/6
Thaigo Santos to beat Kevin Holland via KO/TKO/Sub/Dsq – 1/2
Pedro Munhoz to beat Brett Johns via KO/TKO/Sub/Dsq – 8/5
The fourfold comes to around 9/1 – If the first one land with Pedro Munhoz then I am fairly confident on the other 3. Should be a great card with alot of finishes. I am also putting money on both TJ and Cody to win via finish which is 8/5 and 7/4 respectively meaning that whoever wins the fight, as along as there is a finish which I am almost certain of, then I’ll make some profit.
Pre-lims start at 1am Sunday on Bt Sport 2 and the main event starts at 3am.

Stmirren 6/4
I’ve seen Dundee twice so far in the betfred cup and have been far from impressed, hopefully it’s just taking time for the new players to gel but I’m not hopeful , we are taking over 1300 fans to this game but Stmirren will have a full house as well and are coming off a moral boosting win against Dumbarton
Inverness 17/10
I think this price is bigger than it should be due to the bookies overreaction to the lose against hearts , I fancy Inverness to carry on the good form from last season and the early betfred games against a Falkirk team who have not impressed so far and may take time for their new players to gel
2x singles and a double
Good luck all
I get what you’re saying about Dundee but Saints have been poor as well barring one big win over Dumbarton.
A draw probably suits both sides and it make take Stubbs’ new boys time to find their feet.
Good start to my tipping careeer ? not so good a start for my team Dundee , it’s going to be a long season and doubt MCann will still be here after Xmas

Can we wrap up the championship now?
New season really starts today and i’ll be honest with you, I’ve been a bit blinkered with focusing on the ins and outs of Derby. I know Leeds have signed Patrick Bamford, i’m surprised he was sold BUT both teams have to feel that they’ve got a good deal. I thought last year he’s been a bit down on his usual quality.
Former Derby defender Darren Moore made terrific headway in trying to salvage the sinking ship of WBA but it proved a step too far. His squad I think isn’t properly equipped to deal with life in the championship. I don’t think they’ll have the same year that Sunderland had, but I am thinking a top half finish for him would be a good bit of management and build for the season next year. Swansea might find themselves in a bottom half struggle. I’m heavily swayed towards expecting that of them. Stoke with Rowett at the helm, money to spend and a line drawn in the sand that says ” We want to be pushing for promotion ” is the only one of the 3 teams from the promised land that I expect to be dominant in the top 6 for most of the season. The Stoke of the Tony Pulis era is long gone but Rowett is a shrewd manager and knows how to get things done on a budget. With a board backing him with their wallets, its hard to see past Stoke being back in the top flight come May.
Derby had a stinker of a first half with Reading dominating early play and then getting the opening goal. It seemed to spur Derby on, we got the equaliser and a 94th minute header from Lawrence saw Derby get the first win of the campaign from the first game. We’ve work to do, we still have 2, 3 or 4 players that given better fitness status would of been in the starting 11. I think everyone knows that Derby are a top 6 side, but we really need to try to mix it up better in the top 2. Maybe that’s a step too far for an inexperienced manager, but Roy Keane did it from dead last in the championship and 1 game from the sack. ( They beat Derby 2-1 and it spurred them onto an unbeaten run ) so anything can happen.
I fancy Middlesbrough to be in the hunt for a top 2 finish. Tony Pulis is a manager that knows his onions, and even though his late appointment was maybe a month or two late to get auto promotion, that side was not set up for his style of play. He’s had some time to cast his magic formula, he’s picked up a few signings, he’s got cash to spend from selling Bamford and even though his brand of football will irate the Riverside faithful, if a manager is going to set up a team to scrape a win by an odd game all season, would you really care how he gets the job done? No, me neither. We’d all love to see Barcelona-esque football, but if it affects results, then it has to be back to route 1 to get the job done. After all, there’s £100 million at stake for a slot in the top tier.
I think Villa could struggle this season with John Terry gone and a few other big names. JT was reportedly on 100k a year last season, I think Villa threw the kitchen sink at getting up at any cost. It has now bit them in the bum and they have to regroup and grind it out like the rest of us.
There’s plenty on here who think that Notts Forest will be pushing for a top 6 spot. As good as Aitor Karanka is, he’s no David Copperfield. He’s making progress which is good, but to take a team that’s spent most of the last 3 or 4 years in the wrong half of the table and suddenly have a few signings that are going to gain you an extra 10 places in the league, I just don’t see it happening. If Forest can finish somewhere 8th to 11th, i’d say they’re heading in the right direction.
I can’t see Rotherham having much fun back in the top flight, its more about staying up for them. With the likes of Birmingham/Bolton/Reading all competing for relegation, Rotherham might escape the trapdoor.
It still bewilders me how Bristol made such a fabulous start, shame they never kept that momentum up until May. They slipped up and went a bit ” Derby ” in the last 4 months. I don’t think Bristol will quite have the same season, I know they were tipped for the drop last time out and they really outshone most, but they came up short. I fear the league will have sussed them out by now. Mid table for me.
I also don’t think Blackburn will have the best of seasons, they might take a few weeks to get going but they should be safe. I think mid table is reachable, but beyond that, its a no from me.
There’s a good 10-11 teams all capable of dogfighting for the top 6, the main ones ( in no particular order ) are Middlesbrough/Stoke/Derby, who else in the league will make up the bulk of the time spent in the top 8 is anyone’s guess.
Even Norwich and Ipswich used to be a nailed on top 8-10 team but rarely have we seen any intent from them for as long as I can remember.
One think is for sure, no team is a standout favourite. It is all to play for and hopefully this one will be a bit more open right up until May.
For the season ahead, whatever team colours you wear, regardless of whether you support a rival or are a neutral. If each member throw in a paragraph about their own team ( if you know the team well ), please please please post. Even if it’s a negative thought about your beloved. If we can’t make money on our own team winning, we may as well make some money if we know they’re going to lose.
Very best of luck to everyone on the site, Mr F, the admin, the regulars and the newbies for the forthcoming domestic season.

I have been looking for the best bets for the 2018-19 football season north and south of the border
Starting south of the border and League 2 i have to pick MANSFIELD,
I never pay much attention to pre-season friendlies but Mansfield have looked good, a 1-0 loss to Vitoria Setubal was followed by 3-0 win at Bradford PA, 3-1 win against Derby County, 0-0 draw against Sheffield Utd, 2-1 win against Sheffield Wed and 2-1 win against Rotherham Utd
Mansfield Town were one of the favourites last season and finished seventh, they lost their manager and after a difficult start for the new manager David Flitcroft Mansfield finished the season strongly,
Against Rotherham I was really impressed with the defending of Mansfield, the back three and goalkeeper “a certain Conrad Logan” were outstanding and going forward Mansfield will be looking at Danny Rose to bag a few goals
In League One I am going for my home town Barnsley, with Sunderland and Charlton also there it won’t be easy but I think Barnsley will get promoted, they have been pretty quiet in the transfer market and I think they will be disappointed not to have persuaded Stevie Mallan to stay on, I am hoping Tom Bradshaw stays at the club for this season as he will score goals, during pre-season Barnsley have been quick out the blocks at the start and against Hull they scored after just two minutes and it was new signing Kenny Dougall that scored a 20 yarder, Dougall signed from Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam and is a defensive midfielder but can also play as a central defender but it’s keeping players that is vital to Barnsley with multiple bids coming in for forwards Kieffer Moore and Tom Bradshaw and midfielder Brad Potts
Heading north of the border my Scottish bets,
In the Championship I like an outsider to do well, I really like Ayr Utd, my only worry is they have a small squad so injuries could be their downfall but if they can keep the injuries down they look a serious threat and they also have a player I have been raving about for a while in Lawrence Shankland and it’s vital that Ayr keep him

For tonight my Aldrich bet I mentioned at 9/4 is now down to 13/10. Still a tough fight but good signs as she’s getting lots of backing.
Anyways love my antepost bets & like I’ve said before these can be extremely profitable, you’ve just got to be patient!
Celtic, Bayern & Juventus all to their leagues (4/5). PSG & Barca to win their leagues (10/11).
Sunderland to be promoted (Evens)
Championship:
Brentford top 6 (15/8). M’brough top 6 (evens). Rotherham relegated (11/10)
Season match bets: Brentford to beat QPR & Stoke to beat West Brom (6/5). Preston to beat Blackburn (4/5)
Bristol City to beat Swansea (7/4)
Premier league Anteposts to follow soon. Enjoy
Liverpool v Napoli (FRIENDLY KICK OFF 6PM)
Over 3.5 goals at 6/5 (NAP)*****
Over 4.5 goals at 11/4 (NB)****
Over 5.5 goals at 11/2
Although this is a friendly i am willing to risk money on there been goals here.Klopp will be testing out his near first team with only a week until the big Kick off,i fully expect Napoli to score and that should bring in the goals totals.Liverpool were 5/6 to win this game and are now 13/20 so been well backed but that doesn’t interest me,i reckon we can do better with goals than the wdw market.
Best of luck and good luck for the upcoming season.#lets bash em

Evening gents,
The Night Owl sees me focusing on one game in Chile with an added low stakes treble – only an outside chance with the latter pick and that’s reflected in the price:
UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA VS. EVERTON (2230 KO):
Catolica are going good guns but despite their form over the campaign, it’s a fact that their most recent matches (particularly at home which was their strength) have flatlined with 6 of the last 8 being draws.
I sense Everton might be able to capitalise here even if it is just to find the back of the net; they may not be in great form themselves but the fixture and Santiago itself has been a rich, recent stomping ground with a goal in each of their last 3 away visits and 4 of the last 5 H2H’s:

Mohamed Salah top premier league goalscorer at 5/1 (NAP)
From a personal point of view and maybe a bit of biased i don’t see anyone in the premier league matching Salah this season,at 5/1 this is a must for any antepost bettors.
Liverpool to be top at Christmas at 4/1
Again to a lot of people on here this tip will sound biased but Liverpool have had the better pre=season than any other premier league team and in terms of fitness are way ahead of the top six so i would expect a fast start to the campaign to get an edge over our rivals.Man City are yet to welcome back all their first team who look set to miss the start. For me first few games will be telling and i don’t see City winning at Arsenal.
Best of luck

Saturday MLS Sharp Report.
Western conference matchup between 8th placed Minnesota welcoming 10th Seattle Sounders with just 2 points separating them.
Betting Line
The game split the opinion on money line with 49% backing Minnesota against 51% public consensus taking Seattle while the line us moving slightly toward Minnesota who are now 2.42 for win from opening of 2.59 against Seattle current 2.92 from 2.68.
Over/Under bettors public is on over 3 – 90% against 10% on Under and normally line would move towards the public favor but Sharp are hammering on Under cousing a reverse line movement with total dropping from 3 to 2.75 Squares are siding with Minnesota worst defence while Pro are taking Seattle defence which as allowed 0.4 goals per game in last 5 to keep the total way down under.
Under 3 -1.83
Saturday MLB Pro are back in action targeting totals in Chicago White Sox vs Tampa Bay Ray matchup.
Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
The betting percentages aren’t quite as lopsided in this one, but 54% of bets are on the over. However, only 23% of the money wagered is backing the over, which has helped drop the over/under from 7.5 to 7.
Sharp Angle Under 7 -1.84
Hi gents,
Hope you’ve all had a profitable return to the season today. One for tonight from a league thats been going on throughout the summer so form should see true with Chicago heading to Utah in the MLS.
The Fire have been an over team for as far back as I can remember, and this season shows no change. 18 game splayed with 23 seeing over 2.5 goals, with 10 of 11 on the road seeing the same outcome. Averaging 3.5 total goals per game.
Salt Lake boast the best home record with 26 points from their 31 total (8 wins from 11, and they should win against a side who have conceded 3+ in four of their last five MLS contests. Chicago have however scored in 9 of their 11 road games and have only failed to net here once in their franchise history. Expect them to nick one tonight.
BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals @ 4/5 @ 365 – 2.5 points
Salt Lake & BTTS @ 183/100 @ Marathon Bet – 1 point
Its just drifted. Not the best of signs ???
Cheers, just another reminder to list KO time. It helps everyone and also alerts us to when it needs posted without having to look it up.

Evening gents
Plenty of winners on the site on Saturday despite it being the first round of fixtures of the new season which is great to see ⚽️✅
Both My Scottish tips came in yesterday and i’ll likely be focusing purely on the Scottish games on a Saturday or at least until I have a better idea of where the goals are in England.
Another two games from
Scotland tomorrow ??????? with a cracker from Pittodrie as Aberdeen host Rangers – it’s too tough call, instead i’ll be turning my attention to the match at Easter Road
Hibernian v Motherwell KO 3pm
Was delighted to see Hibs get through to the next round of the Europa League qualifiers on Thursday but be interesting to see how they fair in their league opener.
I’m Not saying Hibs will have a Europa League hangover but it’s never easy even for the top clubs playing on a Thursday away from home then playing on the Sunday. Thankfully I won’t be caring who wins this game as long as theirs goals and as we know there’s been no shortage of goals at Easter Road recently. Kamberi will again be a favourite to find the net and Hibs should do so at least once.
Motherwell certainly won’t be coming here to make Up the numbers and with Curtis Main in their ranks alongside Connor Sammon who is a nuisance , i fancy the Steelman to find the net against a far from convincing Hibs backline. Both sides to score for me leading us to goals. Game shouldnt be odds against for goals
Back over 2.5 match goals 42/41 (188Bet) (NAP)
************************
Hibs were a real money maker in the corners market last season, they’ve racked up 18 corners in their two home Games so far and their attacking approach should see some more again tomorrow, Motherwell to also chip in with a few
Over 10 match corners 1/1 (Bet365)
Big goal from Toronto at the death, keeps the momentum going, showed they are back to competing with the best and they have a real shot of getting into the playoffs.
150/1 looks a steal but they will still be big odds come Monday morning so keep an eye out how the bookies price them up.
Catolica equaliser on ’50…shame they couldn’t manage one in the 1st half for the bonus 3/1 ?
UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA VS. EVERTON (2230 KO):
