MAN CITY have conquered England – next on the list is Europe.

Pep Guardiola's men are the outright favourites and I'm backing them to achieve their dream at 13-2 with betfair.

Owner Sheikh Mansour has told fans winning the Champions League is the next target and he usually gets what he wants.

They launch their campaign tonight at home to Lyon and are no bigger than 1-5 at Betfred to bank three points against a side that's started with two win in five in Ligue 1.

City won five out of six in the groups last season and the best way to go is City -1 or -2 on the handicaps.

They've won more than half of their home matches since last season by at least two goals so City -2 Asian is the best bet at 6-7 with McBookie.

Sergio Aguero comes alive on nights like this and is 11-4 with McBookie to break the deadlock.

Manchester City are the hot favourites to win Group F but second place is wide open with Lyon, Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim all in with a chance.

Shakhtar have won seven out of eight in Ukraine and look a decent bet at home to Hoffenheim at evens with William Hill.

This is Hoffenheim's first Champions League group outing and face a side who won their four home games in the tournament including against Man City.

Man United will struggle to qualify from Group H ahead of Juventus and Valencia but should open with a win away to rank outsiders Young Boys.

United picked up a confidence-boosting win at Watford on Saturday and are 3-4 with Marathonbet. Romelu Lukaku has started the season well and is 19-5 at McBookie.

I planned to add thoughts on other games but ran out of time thanks to the weather, a flat tyre and helping organise a funeral so apologies for that.

Briefly I've posted Ajax to beat AEK Athens and Shakhtar to beat Hoffenheim as a double in the early games.

I like Juventus to at least avoid defeat at Valencia with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring first and Bayern should win at Benfica even if they are a short price.

The Man City owner obviously doesn’t get what he wants,if he did he would of won the champions league by now.Why Man City are favourites i will never know, for me they need a better defence than they have got to win it,and of course they may well meet Liverpool on the way!!!

‘Usually’ gets what he wants Macca, try replying too what Mr F actually wrote instead of hand picking your words just so you can have a moan at anything that doesn’t proclaim Liverpool to be the best thing since sliced bread?

It’s not what I said. Man City are the bookies favourites and I’m tipping them to win – would be interesting if they met Liverpool on the way.
I said Mansour usually gets what he wants and having built up to this he now wants the Champions League.
If Pep doesn’t win it this year or next year do you think he’ll be kept on?

    • maccathered 6 years ago

If they meet Liverpool on their way then City will be out won’t they.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Maybe – you can’t say for sure.
Pep must have learned something from last season’s defeats.

Another City bias article!! Hardly inspired this year. Remember when they played Liverpool this site had them to win… what happened?? They got beat 3 times. Media is full of Pepe’s worshipping and it’s a disrespectful to managers who had to.work on any budget… Let’s see how they do in the knock out rounds first shall we… favourites my arse

    • mr h 6 years ago

Respect and budgets in the same sentence from a Liverpool fan? These the same folks that slate Celtic from that tin pot league up north in the champions league for losing too Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich. Don’t go on about budgets and respect when it suits your own club if you disregard it when slating other clubs ?

Agree with both your comments above. One difference from last season it wont be an easy ride to win the premiership.Liverpool will push them all the way and suddenly Chelsea are looking decent. A lot of teams on their day can beat anyone too !

Why do the scousers get so offended ? if it were priced up too lose a final Liverpool would be odds on, its Klopps forte

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I wasn’t offended in the slightest, the bit where the owner usually gets what he wants is untrue,if he got what he wants he would have won it by now,he hasn’t even come close to winning it.It takes more than money to win a Champs league title, ask the Scousers they have won it 5 times.

    • mr h 6 years ago

Usually means most often not always ? so it’s correct. Macca nobodies disputing the fact historically Liverpool have won more trophies than City but you won 4 of those when mullets and donkey jackets were acceptable. This is the here and now we are talking about but if history is relevant and I want too know about winning it with little money I dinny need too ask anyone as my club won it with 11 players born within 30 miles of the stadium that cost about 30 quid too assemble ? maybe yous could get a refresher course from Leicester in how too win the league

Yes Mr F, I do fancy Lukaku to bag tonight. He has scored 7 goals in his last 6 games. His also played twice before against Young Boys in his Everton days scoring 5 against them ( A hatrick and 2 in the other game). He also got 4 goals in last years group stage and 5 overall in the champs league.

    Lukaku FGS – 19/5
    Lukaku ANYTIME – 5/4
Lukaku to score 2 or more – 6/1
    Lukaku to score a hattrick – 28/1

Good stats – the pitch might have a say. Several Premiership teams in Scotland have plastic pitches and plenty of players don’t fancy them.
Others don’t play in case of injury.
