The domestic football season is just about over and Manchester City have all but won the Premier League once again. For a while, it did look as though Arsenal might even take them to the final weekend of the season. But the comprehensive win for Pep Guardiola’s side against the Gunners effectively killed off that challenge.

Although the campaign hasn’t quite finished, there are some online betting sites like BetNow that have opened up the market for the outright winner for next season. This is one of the most popular bets when it comes to English football, so we thought we would take a look into the future and see who has a chance of beating Manchester City next year.

The Favourites

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City have already been named as the favourites to win the English Premier League in the 2023-24 season. Guardiola has more money behind him than just about every other team in the league and had been helped by the goals of Erling Haaland to bolster his title march this season.

Barring any unfortunate injuries to key men it would seem as though backing City to go all the way again next year would be the best bet. Unfortunately, the odds for that selection do not look very enticing. City are odds on to triumph, at about 8/13 with some bookies, and that doesn’t make that particular bet very attractive – even at this very early stage.

Can Arsenal Compete Again?

Everyone has been impressed with Arsenal this year. After losing the first three games of the season last year, there were more than a few Gooners calling for Mikel Arteta’s head. Those of a calmer persuasion realised that he was only just setting out his plan for the club – and this season has seen those ideas come to fruition.

Although it must be immensely disappointing for Arsenal fans for their side not to claim the league title, finishing second is still better than most bookies had predicted. But they will do well to get so close again next season. Odds of around 8/1 might look good, but they should only be considered as part of an each-way bet in our opinion.

Big Guns Return

Watching the pundits on television over the last few weeks, there seems to be a general consensus that Liverpool will be part of the title race next season. But we’re not so sure. Jurgen Klopp seems to have a major restructuring job on his hands at Anfield and finishing in the top four will still be an achievement again next year.

The coaches – whoever they may end up being – at Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea all similarly have a lot of work to do to convince us that they are the ones to battle City for the title. It could be that Pep Guardiola has a much easier time of it next season, as everyone else gets their squads ready for 2024-25.

Any Long Shots?

One club that is promising a lot is Newcastle. Thanks to the money from their Saudi owners, the Geordies have enjoyed an excellent second half of the season that will probably see them qualify for the Champions League. That will only help attract even more talent to join in the summer.

Most bookmakers still have Newcastle at longer odds than the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. But if anyone is going to challenge the club from the Etihad, it is more likely to be the one from the northeast. At odds of around 12/1 to win the Premier League, Newcastle should be your other main option.

Where to Put Your Money

If you are absolutely determined to place a bet on the 2023-24 outright winner of the Premier League, it would seem as though Manchester City would be your only realistic option. Newcastle would be very tempting for an each-way bet, but you need to remember the odds reduction for that option as well.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the odds will alter dramatically over the summer when the clubs start recruiting for the new season. Big-money clubs like City and Newcastle will almost definitely sign some new top-tier players, so get your bet on early to get these odds while you can.
