IT was two out of two for me on day one of the Gold Cup with Canada-Martinique staying under 2.5 goals and Panama beating Mexico while I tipped Panama plus one.

The two big underdogs, Martinique and Panama, both won and while I didn't fancy Canada and Mexico it was a big price on them both to lose.

Next up it's El Salvador v Trinidad and Tobago (11pm) followed by Haiti v Honduras (2.30am) in Group B.

El Salvador are the lowest-ranked side in the section but were third behind Honduras and Costa Rica in this year's Copa Centroamericana which was a good result. T&T look on a downward spiral and have already failed to qualify for the World Cup.

This is difficult call and a draw looks a decent option at 9-4 with Betway. However, having sided with the underdogs in the first two matches I'm willing to risk El Salvador plus one at 1-2 with Paddy Power.

Honduras are big favourites against Haiti with BetVictor going a biggest 4-6. Honduras have finished third in three of the last four Gold Cups and usually perform well. They should win Group B and I expect them to take three points from a Haiti side who surprised Spain (1-2) and Italy (2-2) in warm-ups before the Confederations Cup.

I don't think Spain or Italy were at their best in those games but to score against them was impressive. So while Honduras should win I'm taking a chance on both to score at 11-10 with Coral, Ladbrokes and bet365.

I’ll take a bet in-play on the Salvador game. Watched the Canada game last night and they were extremely poor. Trying to get a feel for the tournament but the later games are too later for me. Well done with the tips last night Mr F. I’ve take a chance on the Haiti BTTS later. I watched Haiti in their friendlies with Spain and Italy and although they took a while to get going they looked better than the two teams I saw last night.

Rab, my thinking was if Haiti can score against Spain and Italy they can score against Honduras. But as you say standard as been pretty poor so far which makes USA look even stronger on the outright.

    Brazil Serie B (11.30pm)

    Paysandu PA v Sao Caetano H 2.08 D 3.28 A 3.16

I’m going to take you back two or three weeks when Sao Caetano played away at Oeste.

Oeste, we noted, were last season’s Serie C champions, and we said Serie B’s a step up in class, and so far they’ve done OK, especially at home, with two wins and a draw, but they’re a smallish club and this is likely to be the highest level they can go to…

So, let’s note that Paysandu were promoted from Serie C in third. And they’ve played at home 4 times – two wins, two draws. But they haven’t actually played anybody that great yet…

And a couple of weeks back, what we said about Sao Caetano was that in last year’s Serie B, they’d finished 5th – 4 teams are promoted.

We also noted they were the TOP away side with the following season record:

    P19 W11 D5 L3 F31 A20

    That’s a blistering away record!

We also said, despite only being formed in 1989, they had a pedigree from the early 2000s when they were runners-up in Serie A and also runners-up in the South American Champions League, the Copa Libertadores.

That’s a side that’s looking to get back to the top.

As things turned out, Caetano beat Oeste 3-0 in that game two or three weeks back, and my money’s on lightning to strike twice.

The away is 23/10, and I can’t resist having a nibble on Sao -1 at 13/2.

Good luck with all your bets overnight!

Is it weird I think Australia are going to pull off some type of miracle and win the ashes even though on paper and realistically they are getting smashed. Probably because I love everything aussie. E.g. Robertson who’s my tip for the snooker again and been reduced from 4/1 to 9/4. Had £40 on Australia for fun

Ellis, can’t see past England to be honest but not backing them at 1-3.
