THE opening games in Group A went just as I expected … with the two underdogs winning. Panama beat a weakened Mexico while Martinique stunned shot-shy Canada in the other contest.
First up in the early hours of Friday morning it's Panama v Martinique (1.30am) with the winners making the semi-finals. It's a massive carrot for both and while the Caribbean country's win over Canada can't be underestimated I can't see past a win for Panama who have been consistently good performers in this tournament for many years.
Only a late Clint Dempsey goal for the USA denied them a place in the Final two years ago and Panama should be too good for Martinique. They look a decent bet at 19-20 with bet365.
The Mexico-Canada game (4am) is tougher to call. Both were poor in their openers and Canada have now lost one of their better players, former Norwich striker Simeon Jackson who has flown to Germany to sign for Braunschweig.
Picking a winner is tough but it looks like an unders game so I'll be on under 2.5 goals at 19-20 with bet365. Most of the money is on Mexico but remember this is their second-string side with no Confederations Cup players included so consider the draw at 19-5 with BetVictor.
