racing tips daily 2

Max The Tiger didn't live up to the title of Tuesday's thread, as he didn't manage to outrun his big odds, and he definitely didn't put it up to the market principles.

The favourite also was terrible, but Max The Tiger didn't help his chances by pulling hard and refusing to settle in the early stages. He did manage to settle in the middle of the race, and he looked to be coming with a solid challenge down the outside, but as soon as he was off the bridle, the game was over, and he went backwards very quickly.

G'Emmethegreenlite 9/1 (0.5pt EW) – Hamilton 2.00

Sometimes, horse racing isn't all about pedigrees and the best form; it's about reading the room and what catches the eye, and what catches the eye on Wednesday is Jamie Spencer is riding a two-year-old debutante at Hamilton.

The statement I've just said might not mean a lot, but that is a very strange booking to see in Scotland for one ride on a Wednesday, for a yard that has used him three times. With a career as long and as successful as Jamie's, he has only been to Hamilton 26 times, and he hasn't been here in the last five years. He is close to retiring, and only gets out of bed for good opportunities, so I get the impression he has been promised that this ride for Adrian Keatley could be a decent one, as it's a hell of a long way for him to travel for a ride on a horse with no experience. However, the fact that Jamie has been booked is interesting as he is 3/6 on juveniles this season.

It's a shame that we have a Wathnan horse in the race, as they have been firing in winners like no tomorrow in these types of races, so if he is above average like the majority are, we could be in trouble, but at least we'll get decent odds as their horses are always smashed in the betting.

This horse has a decent enough pedigree, being by Blue Point and out of an Italian mare who has produced a horse to finish in the places in a Class 1. Connections must've seen something in him as he was bought for £125,000 as a yearling, and that is a hefty sum of money for a yard the size of Adrian's, and he is a shrewd customer who has already had a Listed 2-y-o winner this season.

Ayr Poet 4/1 (1pt) – Hamilton 3.00

I'm hoping that Ayr Poet can ignore his name and get a fourth win at Hamilton.

On paper, this is a tougher assignment than last time out for Ayr Poet, as this is a Class 5 and the previous race was a Class 6, but if you look through the form of many, they aren't in the best of form bar the top weight who was second last time out. This left me with the impression that Ayr Poet, who is on a falling mark, could bounce back and get a win, especially after a solid performance last time out.

Unfortunately, the handicapper decided to raise him 2lbs for his runner-up finish, but Ayr Poet is still going to be running off a lower mark as Lauren Young takes off 7lbs and William Pyle took off 3lbs last time out, so he is effectively 2 lbs better off today. From the looks of it, Jim Goldie likes to give Lauren Young some of the better rides, as she is 4/7 for the yard in the last fourteen days, so I think a big run is on the cards, and on ground which is ideal.
