I hope everyone is keeping well and is looking forward to the horse racing jump season kicking in.
I know most on the thread prefer the jumps. Those that follow me will know I much prefer the flat. I didn't get involved that much this season in terms of posting selections on the thread and to be perfectly honest this season on the flat was a bit of a blood bath. Extremely competitive and a minefield for a tipster to be consistent.
I thought I'd jump on tonight with a selection at Nottingham that could possibly upset the apple cart.
Going The Distance 9/2
RFC Midair / Going The Distance – Nottingham 3:12
Most eyes are drawn to the Charlton-trained Midair who currently heads the market at 13/8. Midair finished 2nd behind Andrew Baldings Caviar Heights at Goodwood last time out. Caviar Heights is now rated 94 and you'd think that should be strong enough form to take into this race given Midair takes a step forward.
I personally feel the form is questionable. Caviar Heights went on to contest a class 1 at Newmarket and finished last of the pack. Although that was a step up in class I wasn't impressed with the run and was rather disappointed when Caviar Heights went out like a light over a furlong from home.
At the prices, my eyes were drawn to Ralph Becketts Going The Distance who I think has improvement left in the tank taking this step up in distance tomorrow.
He won last time out at Ffos Las over the 7 when making a late effort in the business end to get up on the line to win by a neck. He hit the line hard that day and this step up to a mile I think will suit him nicely. He's shown ability on both soft ground and good to soft so conditions shouldn't be an issue and Rossa Ryan who's had a good season this year takes the ride.
I thought 9/2 was decent value against the short-priced favourite. I'm also going to have a tiny sprinkle on the reverse forecast with Midair and Going The Distance.
Good luck and as usual let me know how you all are keeping and who you fancy for Wednesday's horse racing.
