It was nice to land a winner on Monday with bless him winning at a tipped price of 2/1. There were no Monday blues for Jamie Spencer that day as he seemed to be in the winner's enclosure anytime I looked at the TV.
His ride on Bless Him was described by commentators as a Jamie Spencer “Masterclass”
It always looks great when you hold up a horse at the rear, weave a passage through and win on the line but he just about done enough and it could have went from a Jamie Spencer masterclass to a “oh typical Spencer” right and quickly..
Regardless, credit where it’s due, he had some cracking rides on Monday and he got my selection over the line in 1st place which is all that matters.
Nothing really caught my eye besides one runner at Lingfield today that I think could outrun his odds of 16/1.
3:10 – Lingfield
The form of the short priced favourite Alrehb isn’t strong at all and as much as the penny has started to drop with him I wouldn’t be anywhere near the 8/11.
He struggled in a class 3 over a mile when finishing 5th when he looked like he didn’t stay the trip as well as connections may have originally thought.
He was then dropped down to 7f on his previous run where he finished 1st in a class 4. He had to work for that win as he was taken right to the line and won by half a length.
The horse that finished clear with him that day (Tintoretto) went on to finish 6th of 8 after that and nothing else that competed that day has done anything either to suggest the form of Alrehb recent win is worthy of a short price 8/11.
Connections must feel he’ll come on leaps and bounds, I’m not totally convinced. Well not convinced enough to back at that price anyway.
I’ve decided to take one of the outsiders as an each way angle into the race. George Bakers French import PINWHEEL had his first taste of the artificial at Kempton recently where he finished a creditable 4th and was unlucky not to go closer in my opinion.
I rewatched the race and I actually thought he was quite unlucky that evening. There was every possibility he could have finished much closer. When he started to pick up he took a slight bump in running when the gap he was going for closed which hindered his momentum.
At that stage he looked like he was going to finish at the back end of the pack but he picked back up again and stayed on quite nicely into forth in the final hundred or so yards. With a bit of a clearer run I think he could out run his odds of 16/1.
Good luck!
Thanks for Bless Him on Monday.
The bloke in the betting shop is really rude so it felt sweet taking a chunk off him.
