racing tips daily 2

Rizzel's sole selection yesterday was unfortunately beaten on the line at Exeter after looking the most likely winner as they approached two from home.

I've mentioned countless times that I'm a big fan of the Ben Jones and Ben Pauling combination, but this time around I have to admit that jockey Ben Jones gave Pic Roc a horrible ride and in my opinion was at fault for the horse not winning.

Ben took the horse four wide for the most of the contest which didn't help matters but his body language suggested he had plenty of horse underneath him as he jumped to the front with ease. The eventual winner battled back after jumping the last to get up on the line but I thought Ben Jones was incredibly weak in the saddle and if given a more aggressive ride would have won that race with the minimum of fuss.

I think Pic Roc is worth another chance next time, particularly in a race of that nature. With that said, I don't think I'd want to be involved if the horse was sent off at a similar price in the market as yesterday.

Cairnzy's Tips

Rubellite 9/4 – Southwell 2.22

Low grade flat racing at Southwell isn't for everyone but I thought Stella Barclay's Rubellite was a decent bet on Tuesday to upset the current market favourite.

I think the top two in the market are your most likely winners and given they are the only two in the field who arrive on the back of recent victories, I struggle to see anything else getting involved as the rest appear completely out of sorts.

After analyzing the form of the two market leaders, It appears little separates them, with both of their wins coming at a similar level and over the same sort of distance. High Court Judge is odds on to win this contest for the James Owen yard but I thought the price of 10/11 was a tad short and carrying top weight will make things a lot harder in regards to following up. My selection Rubellite has the benefit of a 5lb swing in the weights and I think that could prove the difference if both horses run to their level.

Water Of Leith 6/4 – Newcastle 4.45

Yard form always counts for something when studying horses and Jim Goldie certainly ticks the box for being a trainer in form. Jim has his string in good nick at present operating at just over 40% in the last 14 days and has four winners from his last 6 runners.

I've opted to stick with last time out winner Water Of Leith, who I think holds strong claims of following up in this contest. Water Of Leith was given a peach of a ride last time out by Paul Mulrennan. I mentioned recently that Mulrennan is one of the best at riding horses from the rear and coming from off the pace and he did just that on my selection last time out. They went a real crawl last time out, but Mulrennan did well to come off the pace and get up on the line by just under 1L. Water Of Leith has been hit with a 3lb rise for that success but has won of higher marks in the past whilst also running with credit of higher marks in higher grades than this. My selection is drawn in stall six for this contest so I won't be surprised if Paul Mulrennan drops Water Of Leith in again and tries to pick up the pieces late on.

Robert Cowell's Above appears to be the main danger with young Billy Loughnane booked to take the ride. Robert's horses for the most part have been off the boil, however, he did get off the mark yesterday at Lingfield with Michaela's Boy winning under Luke Morris. Above arrives here on the back of a solid effort at Kempton last week. Above went down by just over 1L last time out but he had to race wide on that occasion which potentially cost him the contest as he did make up some nice ground down the straight. Above is handily drawn in stall one and if breaking well from the stalls could prove the main danger.

Brigadier Kakura 5/4 – Dundalk 4.30

I rarely tip horses at Dundalk, the devils course as I call it but I do fancy the chances of Brigadier Kakura. The price of 5/4 isn't that appealing but I think the 5/4 could prove to be decent value if this race plans out as I expect it to.

Daniel Murphy's charge has done well since switching to the artifical surface and his most recent victory in a nursery at this venue has worked out extremley well with the second and third placed horses coming out and winning. The nursery contest in which Brigadier Kakura won came over 6f but I think the drop to 5f could potentially play further into his hands. My selection tends to be ridden quite promintely during his races and if breaking well could be a tough nut to crack.
