Monday was a day of frustration and near misses.
Rocky's Diamond was beaten in a very tight finish, and was edged out by a Mullins horse… no surprise there.
Bridget Mary was the other horse on the day that finished in the runner-up spot. She jumped well, looked outpaced before turning for home, but then got the lead and the race looked to be in her hands. She got tired late on, and that allowed the winner to come back at her.
Doctor Kildare saw some good money arrive for him on his stable debut for Sam Thomas. He put in a similar performance to Bridget Mary in the manner he swept to the front, but this one didn't get caught. Profit secured on the day with a 13/2 winner.
The first runner of the day was pants. Mutual Respect ran on at the finish, but was nowhere near good enough to land a blow.
Atlanta Brave 12/1 (1pt) – Ffos Las 3.58
It could be a foolish decision backing Atlanta Brave in this race, with Conor O'Farrell riding the other Kerry Lee horse.
I'm not sure why Richard Patrick hasn't been riding for Kerry a lot recently, but Conor has been riding a lot for her. The fact that he has chosen the other, Hellfire Princess, suggests that Atlanta Brave doesn't have much of a chance.
However, jockey bookings don't always tell the story, and Atlanta Brave got my attention on his return to hurdles. He is 2/4 over the small obstacles and didn't completely take to fences, despite a couple of good efforts.
I think coming back to hurdles off a much-reduced handicap mark gives him every chance of bouncing back to form, as does the soft ground.
This is a much easier race than what we saw him in a couple of seasons ago, and I doubt he is gone at the game at the age of seven.

It's strange that we're only seeing Frantic run this late in the year, as her mother was a very precocious type, and this filly was a January foal.
Due to the fact that we've not seen her this season, it makes me think there have been setbacks. That is slightly off-putting, but I think in this ordinary kind of a race, a horse with this pedigree should be too good.
Frenetic, Frantic's mother was a very good juvenile sprinter. She was a speedy type, so this trip will not be an issue, and the ground should also be okay, as the other half of the pedigree is Frankel.
Frankel has produced many soft-ground lovers in his stallion career to date, but I wouldn't want it to get too soft for a horse on their debut.
