Rizz is unable to return to the thread tonight, but Cairnzy will remain in charge and keep you updated on the timeframe for his return.
Action Pact got the job done for us on Monday and did so quite comfortably. From watching replays of his previous few outings, I was quietly confident that he was close to getting off the mark, and thankfully, he did so yesterday.
I'll be busy tonight watching the darts, so I'm keeping it simple again with just the one selection on Tuesday. As usual, the quality at this point in the week is generally quite poor, so I think it's best not to throw your money away on this sort of racing.
Fire Eyes 15/8 – Southwell 8.30
I'm hoping that Fire Eyes will be worth the wait on Tuesday as my selection comes in the finale at Southwell on Tuesday night.
My selection has been around the block a tad in terms of trainers, originally with George Boughey for a short stint, then with Laurence Mullaney, and now with Roger Teal.
My selection enjoyed a somewhat consistent spell on the flat under Laurence Mullaney, producing form figures of 2214 in his last four outings under the trainer, so be it at a low level. Fire Eyes was once rated around the mid-70s, but never really kicked on from there and has since regressed to this basement sort of level. I'm not really a fan of tipping in these sorts of races, but I thought Fire Eyes looked somewhat of a safe bet in this contest, and if putting his best foot forward, he should hopefully see off this field which for the main part looks completely out of sorts.
I'm not a fan of Southwell as a course, and it tends to favour horses in the run-in who have a bit of stamina up their sleeve. Fire Eyes has form over further than this forecast distance of a mile, which I think puts him in a good position to be bang there at the finish if he is too show up.
My selection got off the mark at the first time of asking for his new trainer two weeks ago, winning with something to spare under jockey Mark Winn. Fire Eyes was hit with a 6lb rise in the weights for that cosy victory but it shouldn't prevent another bold showing with Mark Winn retaining the ride for connections.
