WALIYAK (2.10) found herself detached and could never quite get on terms at York, but compensation awaits at Lingfield.
Roger Varian’s filly was well backed on the Knavesmire but the track favoured horses racing up with the pace. Waliyak made up a lot of ground after a slow start and briefly threatened over a furlong out without posing a threat to Angel Power. This looks a tad easier as her earlier seconds at Glorious Goodwood and Royal Ascot would suggest. Ray Dawson takes off 5lb.
GOLD ZABEEL (5.00) could never find cover from a wide draw nine days ago at Wolverhampton and Franny Norton had little option but to press on. To his credit, Mark Johnston’s colt was still in front entering the final furlong, only to be nabbed close home by Fancy Footings. Stall four should allow for more conventional tactics on this return to Dunstall Park.
CHOSEN STAR (8.15) showed a commendable attitude to fight off several challengers at Windsor and Michael Bell has found her another attractive opening in this 1m 4f handicap. Oisin Murphy is booked.
