Unfortunately, I am out on Saturday and this will be pre-typed before any of the racing for Saturday has happened, so I can't comment on the races. But, as always, put your fancies in the comments and let's pick some winners.

Ascot 3:35 – Frere D'Armes 7/4 (1pt)

This race looks tough on paper, but I don't think it's as competitive as it may initially look. I'll be siding with Dan Skelton's main hope, Frere D'Armes.

He is 2/2 as a chaser and has gone up 16 lbs for his two wins to date, which will obviously make today's race tough for him, but he looks like a nice chaser who will continue to progress. The form of his Kempton win looks extremely good now, as the runner-up Haddex Des Obeaux has won twice since, and has gone up 20lbs in the process, now being rated 146. Also, the third horse, Dorking Lad, won on his next start by 16L. On Frere D'Armes' next start, he finished ahead of Aucunrisque, who then went back over hurdles and won the Betfair Hurdle. Datsalrightgino was back in third that day and he has since run well in some competitive races and continues to look like a horse who will pop in a decent race at some point soon. Balco Coastal was back in fifth, he has since won a race, finished 2nd in a Grade 1 and is currently rated 150 over fences.

The ground is currently described as good to soft at Ascot and should continue to dry out, which will be perfect for this horse who seems to handle quicker surfaces. Dan Skelton hasn't used him in a race since the November win, so he has clearly been saving him for the better ground and for a big pot, which today's race is (£21k to the winner).

Downpatrick 4:00 – Wa Wa 8/1 (0.5pt ew 4pl)

Most people who read the thread on a regular basis will know my love for big-staying chase handicaps, and today is no different as I put up a fancy in the Ulster National.

In recent years, following horses who are towards the bottom weights in this race has been the way to go. Eight of the last ten winners have been weighted under 11 stone, with five of those being 10st 5lbs or lower. I like the look of Wa Wa, who has clearly been laid out for this race.

His trainer, Dermot A McLoughlin won the Irish Grand National last year with Lord Lariat, so he clearly knows how to prep one for the big occasion. Today's horse has won his last two races over hurdles, almost as if they didn't want to potentially ruin their handicap mark over fences for a nice pot. He has appreciated the step up in trip over hurdles, winning as he pleased at Leopardstown, which would've put him spot on for today's race as he tries a new trip of 3m 4f, but he is by Yeats and has stayers in his pedigree, so this should bring out further improvement.

He is towards the bottom of the weights, weighted off 10st 5lbs when P J O'Hanlon's 5lb claim is used, and I think he could run a big race.

    MFt and all contributers,

I am a family member of a member of this forum who goes by the name Elvis Parsley. “Elvis” has a severe gambling addiction and is destroying his life and has family’s. He is gambling over £100 every single day, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that is about £3000 a month £40000 a year. He starts on dog racing in the mornings then horse racing then football for the remainder of the evening. He has never had a day off gambling for over 20 years now, it is constant, his only concern is gambling, he works as a postman often doing overtime just to fund his addiction.
I have emailed MFT several times asking them to ban him from the site but I have never had one single reply back. He is addicted to this site in a big way as you will all know, he is either on here ( the racing thread) or on the football site. You will usually find at least 6 bets a day on the racing page and usually 2 or 3 on the football page. But what you guys don’t see is the many many other bets he has and doesn’t show on here. He has a scratchcard addiction, he plays every lottery going, he will literally bet on anything. His mental health is suffering in a bad way as you would expect from someone gambling every day and night.
I beg people on here to stop encouraging him on here for the sake of his family. He is close to losing everyone and everything he has worked for all of his life.

MFT please check your email as I have sent in documents to you to try to show the severity of this.

Thankyou everyone and “El” sorry we had to resort to this but your family wants you back.

I can relate to this I was hooked on gambling had to seek help and got counselling. Really helped I only have 3 or 4 small bets a week maybe 5£ on each these days. Used to put on hundreds on a horse. What I found out is we gamble to distract ourselves from life we push away all feelings we don’t like push away unwanted thoughts it’s because we are scared and people won’t want to hear this but it’s the truth. Happy to put my email on here for you elvis if that’s allowed I can recommend places that will help. I’m in the Noth west I’m sure your Chester way? Hope if gets sorted pal

I gambled 20k in 6mths. I had a bad problem. dogs and horses. 1k bets. 500 bets. 100 bets was like 50p bets to me. my head didnt stop on tomorows bets. I banned myself from everything online for 6mths. in that 6mths I saved and realised wtf was I at. it’s a sickness full off greed. and money it’s only digits in an acc that u never really see. if I spend 30quid in a week now I’m sick to my stomach! anyway that’s all I have to say. if u feel uv a problem take urself off everything and enjoy ur friends and family. and ull b happy.

That’s a very humbling write up there d.
You’ve won the biggest part of your battle by realising you had a problem and changed things around by the sounds.

Dancs post is on the footy thread as well.
If a 78 year old retired postman needs help a vat of Guinness would be my first port of call 😄.
Got to say it’s quite amusing someone would go to all that trouble to post something like that, probably says more about them and their many “personalities’ than my “illness” lol….
