Racing tips: UK Raider Marshman will have too much ability for the French now tackling the minimum distance

Epsom was a profitable day on Saturday, even though the Derby hope was very poor and the Epsom Dash selection was very poor as well. Regal Reality stayed on well late in the race to grab us a win in the first, and Prosperous Voyage was given a similar ride and delivered the goods as a 3pt Win selection.

In other news, the Epsom Dash was a farce. I've seen pictures on twitter that not all of the starting gates opened at the same time, with those drawn high being the ones who were massively hindered. In the fastest race on turf, this cannot be done, horses getting a fractional advantage out of the gates is a HUGE benefit. I'm not blaming that as to why my horse ran so badly, as he was one of those who were affected, but it shouldn't be happening and the race should've been void. Check the image below (our selection was drawn in 20).

Chantilly 5:00 – Demain 3/1 (1pt)

It's the French Derby today, but it looks a tough race to call, so I've opted for some of the later races on the card and the first selection is the French horse, Demain, trained by F-H Graffard.

We have some UK raiders in this race, whose form is fairly decent, but I think they are prone to a progressive lightly raced horse, which I think Demain is. He is 2/2 as a sprinter and the win last time out over today's course and distance is the best performance shown by any horse in the race. He made an encouraging start to his career on debut when winning by 1L on the AW, but the run last time out took his form to a new level and that run produced an RPR of 109, which is by far the best shown.

It's a bit tricky with French racing as you get conflicting weather and ground reports, you can check multiple sites for what the ground is and you'll get different answers every time, but the pedigree of Demain suggests the good ground which they should encounter at Chantilly will be perfectly fine for him.

Chantilly 5:35 – Marshman 9/4 (1pt)

I avoided the UK runners in the previous race, but I am siding with Karl Burke's Marshman in the last race of the day.

This horse has always had a lot of ability about him, and I think you saw glimpses of that last time out at York, even though he didn't manage to get the victory. He was quite a headstrong horse as a juvenile, and always showed plenty of pace. Last time out he looked to be swinging coming alongside the leaders 2f from home, but his efforts did weaken slightly in the final furlong and I think the drop to 5f will be perfect for him today.

We already know that he handles the track as he won on seasonal reappearance over 5.5f on soft ground in a Group 3, winning by 1.25L. I think the form of the York Group 2 race looks strong, the winning filly is a progressive horse and those in behind would be strong in the market if they turned up for this race today.
