I can't really believe the recent form since stepping in to cover for this short period. 6 winners from 7 selections is a nice return.
Flat AW racing has served me well these last 3 or 4 days, I understand its not everyone's cup of tea on here with most preferring the jumps but it's what I focus on and for me to constantly throw up selections on the jumps would be wrong as my knowledge in that area isn't as strong.
It's a fantastic day of horse racing on Saturday and unfortunately for me, it comes on the jumps side of things. These types of races are right up Rizzels street and I'm looking forward to seeing what he has planned for the big Cheltenham meeting next month!
I'm not going to complicate things this Saturday given the competitiveness of it all but I will switch my attention to the jump meetings given I've mainly been on the flat this week.
Erne River 9/4 – Haydock 2:05
Another small field but as competitive as ever if you were going solely based on the current market with not a lot separating the top 3 or 4.
I think this is a winnable race for Erne River. He has some pretty nice form over the fences and I was more than happy with his run back over hurdles on his previous run.
He was beaten on the day by Donald McCains Silver Flyer who is an unexposed sort. Silver flyer was also in receipt of weight over Erne River so if you take all that into account that was a pretty good effort.
The form of that particular race has been boosted as the 4th on the day Walking On Air has since gone on to win at Exeter.
Erns Rivers last run was over 3m but previous to that he was known for running over shorter. I think his last run shows he can stay the 3m trip and given he's since undergone a wind op I'm hoping that will ease out more improvement from him.
There are a couple in this field with question marks on their heads in my opinion.
Itchy Feet is one of those horses with piles of ability but you have to catch him right on the day and more times than most he doesn't show up.
Greenbook came back to form but has to carry a 4lb penalty for his previous win at Sandown.
Shiskin 2/1 – Ascot 3:35
Most tipsters, presenters and racing fans out there are going down the safe route in this and taking Fakir D'Oudairies to come out on top in this and don't get me wrong I completely understand why he's the safe play in this race.
Pic D'Orhy comes into this on great form with no real reason to suggest he can't improve to be a real threat at this top level.
All that aside I'm willing to take a risk on Shiskin. If you'd of told me this time last year that Shiskin would be approaching Cheltenham this year as a shadow of the horse he once was I'd probably of laughed in your face and told you to catch a grip but here we are, the beauty of racing.. swings and roundabouts!
Skiskin has been the topic of discussion by racing fans for some time now. What went wrong? Being the main question.
Of course, the rare bone condition reported by connections is a clear excuse but some people think there's a bit more to it than that.
Some think the win over Energumene maybe took it out of him and he hasn't been the same since.
Some think the horse has just got to that stage of his career that the race course does nothing for him and he's lost that ‘spark'.
All that aside I'm willing to roll the dice one more time on him. I think this step-up in trip might just be the key to Shiskin getting back to his old self.
I thought his latest run at Sandown over 2m wasn't the worst of runs. Some are making out it was worse than what it actually was in my opinion and I personally thought the way in which he travelled suggested a step up in trip would be worth exploring and I'm happy to see connections giving it a try.
If he stays and travels well I can see him motoring down in the final couple of furlongs, the part of a race that he's known for pulling it out of the bag.
Good luck on what looks like a minefield of Saturday racing! Let me know your horse racing tips in the comment section below.

With Allaho now out of the Ryainair there are 2 races today that should give us a clearer picture.
First there’s the Red Mills at Gowran with current fav Haut En Couleurs odds on to make up for falling when looking like winning lto but he tends to find ways to lose and I think should be taken on.
Capodanno was touted as a GC horse by WM after winning at the punchestown festival last season and still has an entry (only entry) for that race. He has to concede 9lbs to the field though for that win and this may be a bit on the short side but there has been nibbles in the market for him.
Janidil was 2nd in last year’s Ryanair and is still available at 25s in places for this year’s race. It’s his first start of the season but his form fresh over the past 3 years reads 1,1,2 the 2 was a 2L 2nd to Allaho in last seasons John Durkan.
I’ve had a nibble at the current odds of 7/2 on him today.
Slightly later we have the Betfair Chase which is all about Shihkin who steps up in trip for the first time. Clearly the class horse in the race and on his day would wipe the floor with these but backing him today is purely on reputation and surely it’s a race to just watch or if confident on Shiskin then back him for the Ryainair itself. Wins in the style we know he can then he goes odds on. If it all goes wrong he won’t run and you get you’re money back.
I would love to see him back cos racing needs it’s stars but just can’t back him today.

Shiskin proved the doubters wrong, fantastic run! The step up in trip worked wonders!
Shishkin very impressive do you think he would be good enough to run in the gold cup
I’m not sure mate,
He’s not a bad each way bet currently at 10/1, think 365 offering NR No Bet.
If I’m honest, no I don’t think hes good enough to win it.
