KHUZAAM (6.55) can go one better than last year when pipped in the Listed Hyde Stakes over a mile at Kempton.
Hamdan Al Maktoum's colt has been off the track ever since but trainer Roger Varian has probably had this Fast Track Qualifier for the Mile Final on Good Friday in mind for some time. Front-running Khuzaam looked home and hosed 12 months ago, powering clear over a furlong out, but was caught on the line by Set Piece. Similar forcing tactics will doubtless be employed this evening and Jim Crowley has a perfect slot in stall three.
Chief market rival Johan is drawn out wide but is on a roll for William Haggas following handicap victories at Ayr and Chelmsford City.
ROCK EAGLE (7.25), fifth to Great White Shark in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket, is fancied to land the two-mile handicap. This will be Rock Eagle's first start on a synthetic surface but his pedigree is stacked with successful all-weather performers.
November Handicap winner On To Victory is up 6lb and should go well, along with Soghan and True Destiny at the foot of the weights.
TWPSYN (8.30) is worth an each-way wager in the concluding middle-distance handicap. He goes unpenalised for beating previous course winner Finoah with something to spare under a canny Tom Queally ride at Redcar 15 days ago. Gina Mangan takes over this evening and she was on top when Twpsyn scored over course and distance in February. Likely favourite My Boy Sepoy has been eased another 2lb and is well treated.
