Racing tips: Torochica can put Best foot forward at Lingfield

Alan Thomson has a value nap at Lingfield plus three other tasty midweek selections

Lingfield 2.50

TOROCHICA (2.50) has been knocking on the door recently and she has fair prospects in the 1m 2f handicap at Lingfield.

John Best's filly ran a fine third over a furlong further at Kempton last month, having failed narrowly to fend off Wimpole Hall in a  blanket finish at Chelmsford City on her previous outing. Stall one can be a tricky berth to overcome if breaking slowly but she rates a sporting nap.

Favourite El Ghazwani is well handicapped these days and rates an obvious danger but market rival My Target has stamina to prove over this longer distance.

Lingfied 12.40

DISCO FEVER (12.40) won't go off at such generous odds but John Gosden's filly can build on her promising debut at Kempton 13 days ago. She found herself with quite a lot to do after being hampered at the start but was noted doing good late work in fourth.

Disco Fever was a 260,000 guineas foal so it will be interesting to see if she can live up to that price tag.

Newcastle 6.15

At Newcastle, NORTHERNPOWERHOUSE (6.15) should go close under regular jockey Graham Lee in the 7f handicap. Bryan Smart's colt was pipped over course and distance in early October and has since enjoyed a nice break.

He seems to go well fresh, having finished second of 20 at Thirsk in May following a 182-day absence and picked up a race at Musselburgh in July over his specialist 7f trip. Northernpowerhouse is an attractive each-way punt.

Newbury 3.00

DEFI SACRE (3.00) looks the right favourite in the Conditional Jockeys' 2m handicap chase at Newbury. The six-year-old beat little of note at Musselburgh last week but had the race in the bag from a long way out. Jonjo O'Neill jnr is a good booking.
