Well, I'm glad to see the back end of Goodwood and their main Festival of the year. It's been a total disaster on my part, with some iffy rides to blame, along with some poor picks and horses not running to form. Today's racing doesn't look great, with just the one flat meeting at Chester, which is also a difficult track to bet at, but I think I've found an angle to get some profit.
Tom Clover has some nice 2yo's this season, including ROGUE SPIRIT who is currently rated 91 from his four runs to date which has some good pieces of form.
He finished a neck second behind Chateau on his second run, which now looks like very good form. Chateau has since finished fourth in the Windsor Castle Stakes behind Little Big Bear which has turned into one of the best form lines to follow for a juvenile this year. Chateau then went on to win a Class 1 listed race at Newbury beating Rogue Lightning who is a stablemate of Rogue Spirit. He didn't quite improve again when finishing 3rd in a Group 2 at Glorious Goodwood this week, but it shows the level of horse he is and he only beat today's selection by a neck, even though it could've been more. The Riddler was third in that Beverley race, and he went on to win a Class 1 race at Royal Ascot, which makes that race red-hot.
Rogue Spirit then went on to win a Novice race at Wolverhampton, winning at odds of 2/11 and winning in a way that his odds would suggest. He then went to the Newbury Super Sprint race where he eventually finished 3rd behind Eddie's Boy who has some good form behind Rocket Rodney and Little Big Bear.
Rogue Spirit is drawn in stall 2 which is good for Chester as getting a prominent position is often vital. He has been a horse who has run from the front or close to the pace, so I'd expect Jack Mitchell to make full use of his low draw.
Tom Clover is currently 4/11 with his 2yo's this season on turf, operating at a 36% SR.
