RARE GROOVE (2.35) showed his liking for the Hamilton hill when scoring here in August and his recent comeback third to Eddystone Rock at Leicester reads a strong piece of form in this grade. He usually performs at his best with a little juice in the ground but there should be a good covering of grass, with no jar, for Hamilton's inaugural 2019 fixture.
SHARP DEFENCE (3.45) has also gone well at the track, his best effort coming when fourth to Dark Defender in August. He finished fourth in a 22-runner handicap at Naas last week so is coming here fighting fit.
David O'Meara's Three Saints Bay was an expensive flop at Goodwood yesterday but hopefully MAKAWEE (3.10) will get the show back on the road. She won over 1m 4f at Musselburgh last September and holds Pammi on that run. The betting market should tell us what is expected following a 240-day absence.
William Haggas should saddle a short-priced double with Deputise and Al Hadeer but the other recommended bet is ZODIAKOS (4.55) in the concluding mile handicap. Roger Fell's gelding ran third to Casement at Pontefract and seems to appreciate this stiff tracks.
In the Qipco 1000 Guineas, I've bet QABALA (3.35) win only and FAIRYLAND each-way. Qabala was particularly impressive when winning the Nell Gwyn Stakes here last month, while Fairyland won four of her five starts racing at a high level last season.

The 1K today is a real headscratcher. Favs have an appalling record so something of ew value could be the way to go.
Would love to see Lady Kaya win for Shiela Lavery. Small yard and jockey Robbie Colgan only switched from the jumps game last year but on 2yr old form has a bit to find with Scitter Scatter.
Lady Kaya did however have Iridessa 2 1/2L behind when winning the guineas trial at leop earlier so can’t quite make out why she’s a 14/1 shot.
