Racing tips: There’s still more to come on testing ground at staying trips for Jasmiwa

The trip to Huntingdon for team Kirby was a total waste of time. Considering he was 2/2 with his chasers at the track in the last five years, the performance of his horse was horrific, almost as horrific as Nico De Boinville's attitude. Why he turned up to ride Ialous Du Mer I'll never know, looked totally uninterested and didn't even try on the horse when you'd like to see the jockey try and get a tune out of a horse. I'm not saying he was going to go on and win, but as a punter, you'd like to see an effort and he did the opposite. 

Chepstow 1:30 – Minella Bobo 8/1 (0.5pt EW Bet365)

If it wasn't Planned Paradise's first run of the season I think he would be a big player, but the way Christian William's horses have been running first time out I think this will be a run for fitness for some better races in the near future. Jamie Moore travels to Chepstow for this one ride, so still has to be respected, but based on the other horses in the stable I'm siding against him today, although I'm a big fan of this horse.

My arrow landed on Minella Bobo who is also making his seasonal return and coming on the back of a long layoff (303 days), so fitness is going to be a question but Rebecca Curtis' horses have been running quite well recently and she got a winner the other day, plus the other horse was running a big race at Cheltenham at big odds (Wayfinder, who I think DC tipped up?). Both of those horses were running off some big layoff and the winner was returning from 433 days, so that gives me plenty of encouragement that she has her horses in fine fettle.

This horse is best seen to effect when running from the front so I'll be having my fingers crossed that James Bowen goes from the front and that no one takes him on for the lead. He is a 10yo but is lightly raced for his age with just 15 career starts. He's back on a decent mark again after going miles up in the handicap from his 11L win back in 2021, which saw him go up a decent chunk. His form tailed off, maybe because he was too high in the weights, but I think the stable form was very poor last year and Rebecca really struggled for winners, but seeing her horses returning this season in good form is a good indicator that this lad can also bounce back off an 8lb lower handicap mark from his last win, and 20lbs lower than his peak.

Chepstow 2:05 – Jasmiwa 10/3 (1pt)

You don't need telling twice about the good form of the Twiston-Davies yard, they're flying at the moment. So with that being said I think Jasmiwa can definitely bounce back to form.

This 5yo mare has more progression to do this year, and I highly doubt we've seen her ceiling already. She is 2/4 at staying trips over hurdles and will definitely make a chaser whenever connections fancy the switch, she is a great jumper for most of the time and is definitely seen to be effect on testing ground so the hiccup she had on good ground at Hereford in between her two runs can be forgiven as can the run in the Class 2 race at Ayr where she suffered an overreach and that was a tough race anyway.

Fitness is always going to be a question mark for every horse's first run of the season but the way Nigel has his horses at the moment I have full faith that she'll be fit and ready to strike first time out. Back at Chepstow is a positive and the ground will be testing even though it won't be bottomless and I think that will suit this mare.
