Racing tips: The Whipmaster looks dangerous off his last winning rating

My worst nightmare happened on Sunday with the four-runner race becoming very tactical and them not going a great pace on the front end. With that being said, Buick should've known this and potentially taken the initiative on his horse, instead, he had him miles off the pace and that never suited, as he ran on strongly in the final few furlongs to get second. Disappointing really from the champion jockey.

Windsor 8:10 – The Whipmaster 15/2 (0.5pt EW Whill)

It's a typical Monday with some shoddy racing on show apart from the odd Class 3/2, but for the most part, it's poor racing. Combine the poor racing with the crazy weather we've had in the UK, with the hot weather but rain bucketing it down, and it's difficult to see what type of ground the courses will have come the time of racing, so my advice would be not to get too heavily involved in today's racing.

My sole selection is The Whipmaster, trained by Gary Moore and ridden by Tom Queally. You've got to completely ignore his most recent run as that was his first run this year and in 214 days, so fitness would have been the key thing for that run at Newbury, as his odds of 14/1 would suggest. He is back in calmer waters now, back into a class 4 and back at a track he has previously won at. His handicap mark is back to his last winning mark of 83 and as long as he is 100% fit for today's run, he is difficult to look past in a winnable race.

He progressed nicely last year, winning four times on the bounce, which saw his rating climb from 72 to 90 at his very peak. He won in Class 2 company and was placed in a good Class 2 handicap off a mark of 89. His form took a bit of a nosedive, and that was probably due to his high rating, fairly long season and running back over 10f when his best form has come over further. He seems versatile on any ground, winning on good to soft and good to firm, so whatever the ground, he should be fine.
