Sunday wasn't a great day, we had a faller when in contention for the win and a horse who probably needs further in Storm Tiger.

Young bull made a bad mistake at Exeter but didn't look to stay the trip anyway and Brian Hughes did his best to not put Saddler's Bay into the race.

Wincanton 3:00 – Hotel Du Nord 8/1 (0.5pt ew)

I do like the Veterans' races, you can often find some decent value. Backing the younger horses in these kinds of races is normally the way to go, and I've opted for that today.

Most of the horses in this race arrive with something to prove, including those at the head of the market. I've decided to give Hotel Du Nord a chance on stable debut for Kieran Burke. This horse was once trained in Ireland by Jessie Harrington, then went to amateur rider/trainer William Biddick where he was kept to PTPs for the most part, mixed in with a few National Hunt Chases. He made a good run behind a horse that Will rides in the PTP world and recently rode at Cheltenham, Famous Clermont. He pushed that horse to a 2L win, and I think that is very good form in relation to this race. That horse was well-fancied to run a big race at the Festival, and he cruised into contention but weakened up the hill, and that horse is rated 140 over rules in the NHChases on the world, so that reads as good form to me.

This horse then went to Bill Turner, who is a flat trainer, so was unsurprisingly PU on his sole start for Bill. Connections have now decided to send him to the shrewd operator, Kieran Burke. Kieran has only a few horses but does well with what he has. This season he has been operating at a 26% SR, so he knows where to place his horses. Gavin Sheehan gets the ride, he could've opted for his usual rider, Harry Kimber (claimer), but he has gone to Gavin for this horse's stable debut, and that gives me confidence. Gavin is 5 wins from 7 rides for Kieran this season, so it shows intent on their chances today. He is running in this off bottom weight, and I think at the current odds he is worth a small ew bet.

Wincanton 4:30 – The Bold Thady 3/1 (2pt)

I have had this horse in my tracker for a good few months now, and I've been watching The Bold Thady in the background run over trips or in races that he wouldn't win. Last time out I tipped him up over a trip I thought was still too far for him, but the track would've given him a chance. He finished second that day, given a great ride in defeat, but was nabbed on the line. After I've been praying he should be dropped in trip, connections have finally opened their eyes and done it.

Now he's running over what I deem to be a suitable trip of 2m 5f I think he is a very big player in this race. He is running off top weight, but gets the assistance of a 7lb claimer, Danny Gilligan, who has been in Ireland all of his career, but now seems to be with the Neil Mulholland yard. This doesn't look too strong of a race for the grade, so I think my selection should be fine with the weight. I'm hoping Danny is ice-cold on him and delivers him late, as he does seem to be a bit quirky when hitting the front. He should travel through this race on the bridle.
