FAIR STAR (3.10) is fancied to resume winning ways in the opening 1m 2f handicap at Newcastle.
The son of Sea The Stars landed his first two races at Wolverhampton but lost out by a short head on a third visit to the Midlands track ten days ago. The slow pace didn't play to his strengths and he was devouring the ground through the final furlong. Fair Star should be better suited by this more galloping track and is due to go up 2lb in future, so remains well handicapped for an improving horse with little mileage on the clock. Well-bred King Of The South scored over course and distance last month and is going the right way.
BRINGITONBORIS (5.45) bids for a third consecutive course and distance victory and his lazy style of racing means he keeps one step ahead of the assessor. The grey needs a strong gallop to attack and Dawaaleeb is an habitual front-runner. He finished third to Boris here at the end of October and is 4lb better off for a length. It is likely to be another tight finish.
FUNAMBULE SIVOLA (1.50) whipped a warm favourite over two miles at Wetherby nine days ago and should cope with the four-furlong rise in trip at Sandown. He picks up a 7lb penalty but remains at the right end of the weights. Morning Vicar jumped well in the main when scoring readily at Newbury and should go well, along with Alnadam.
