Shiskin bounced back and rewarded me with another winner on what was a competitive day of racing.
Although he didn't really beat much in my opinion he still jumped perfectly, travelled beautifully and found more up the straight when asked to go win. Things were a miss on his previous couple of runs.
Erne River let me down on my other selection, he was on and off the bridle at stages and didn't jump with any real fluency. To his credit, he did stick on before fading in the closing stages to finish just out of the frame.
Only 3 meetings for Sunday's racing in UK and Ireland and not a lot caught my eye besides one runner so all my eggs are in one basket with this one.
Mortlach 6/4 – Newbury 2:00
It may be a decent day's racing in some people's eyes but to mine, it's pretty dire. In particular at Newbury where there are some races with only 2 or 3 runners ( Ground Conditions more likely the cause )
I don't really like 2/3 runner races as they can become very tactical and fall apart very quickly but here I am tipping up a selection in a 3-runner race.
My selection Mortlach I feel is the one to be on in this race.
Mortlach has been competing is much stronger races recently and this looks like a much easier assignment for Fergal O'Briens runner.
Morlach has won 4 from his last 11 chase starts and given some of the stronger races he's contested in recent times I don't think that is a bad return for connections.
Although not getting the head in front in some of those tougher assignments he was at least consistent enough in running.
Touching on some of his previous runs. He lost out to McFabulous and Thyme Hill in a grade 2 in November. He was then upped to grade one level at Kempton on Boxing Day where he finished behind the same pair mentioned above.
He then came up against Stage Star who was a 1/9 favourite on the day in a 2-horse race and was just on a different level to him.
Mortlach takes quite a significant drop in trip which is an interesting call from conditions but I can't see the new trip or ground conditions causing any issues and against this opposition, he surely has a big chance of getting back to winning ways.

Only been running once a year since 2019 so obviously has had physical issues
Good runner up in class 2 last time and sole credible rival mortlach has been running in better company but never looked like winning those races and his firm figures look misleading

As for spurs, you need mystic meg to work out what they will produce, could be 4-1, could be 1-4.
