SIR Michael Stoute was back in the limelight at Royal Ascot and he sends a few to the more humbler surroundings of Pontefract this afternoon, with DEREVO (3.25) well fancied in the 1m 2f handicap.
His three-year-old filly mopped up a four-runner novice stakes at Chelmsford City from Kimblewick (15th in last week's Sandringham Stakes) before recording a respectable fourth to 92-rated Duckett's Grove at the same track last month. Victory Chime edged out Existential at Leicester but the runner-up was a laboured third at Ripon last week. Chester winner Hats Off To Larry has since run well at Carlisle and could emerge as the main threat to handicap-debutante Derevo, the mount of Ryan Moore.
Moore and Stoute team up with Crystal Moonlight in the feature Listed fillies' contest but BAYSHORE FREEWAY (4.00) came clear of her rivals pretty effortlessly at Chelmsford City four days ago and will take some stopping if in the same mood. John Gosden's Hameen was strong at the finish when booted three lengths clear at Newmarket and could be an improver.
Stoute and Moore have another likely sort in Dante's View, third to Durrell and last week's Beverley scorer Ironclad at Chelmsford City, but slight preference is for DUBAI TRADITION (2.55) in the four-runner novice stakes. The Godolphin colt was pipped by Future Investment at Ripon, with Grenadier Guard three lengths away in third.
