WILL SOMERS (6.40) has been expensive to follow but can get back in punters’ good books by landing the 1m 2f handicap at Ayr.

Kevin Ryan’s gelding has been a beaten favourite on his last five starts but this drop into Class 6 company can work the oracle. He was reeled in by Greengage at Redcar 15 days ago and they clash again here. The winner, fit from a successful winter on the all-weather, probably had the edge in sharpness that day and Will Somers can exact his revenge.

LION TOWER (5.00) is worth a wager in the mile handicap. He took full advantage of a hefty weight concession when beating Overwrite at Newcastle and the runner-up came out six days later to score at Newmarket’s Craven fixture. Lion Tower is just preferred to market rivals Challet and Asdaa.

DANIELSFLYER (7.45) is taken to overcome a 4lb rise for winning at Redcar on quick ground 22 days ago. Michael Dods has his string in top form.

WOOTTON CREEK (8.15) has an official rating of 82 which makes her the one to beat in the concluding fillies’ maiden stakes. She flopped on heavy ground at Nottingham but had earlier finished second in a 15-runner Newmarket contest. Turandot, placed on all four starts last campaign, and Kraken Filly cannot be discounted.

    Punchestown Day 1

    3.40
An absolute clusterphuck to start us off. While looking at the form this morning I was leaning towards Ya Ya Baby and low and behold is fav for the race.
Won lto beating Clever Currancy 2L and meets him on the same terms today. The 3rd and 4th horses haven’t run since but the 5th won nto so the form looks strong enough. Clever Currancy came out and won his last race by 11L and looked like that was a step forward and with his current price being 16/1 5 places I’m going to take that in the hope he can reverse form with Ya Ya Baby

    4.15
The first Grade 1 of the festival and a match up between Echoes in Rain and Blue Lord. I think its significant that Paul Townend chooses Blue Lord. He’s been running against the likes of Bob Olinger and Appreciate it and would have finished a good 2nd in the supreme had he not fallen at the last. Echoes in Rain was very impressive lto but can be a difficult ride and with just a field of 5 I think that will go against her as it won’t be easy to find cover in such a small field.

    4.50
I put up Jessie Evans on yesterday’s thread and is now best priced 17/2 so has virtually halved in price.
He won twice last year both times on good ground, so we know he will enjoy conditions, but its the form of his last run that really catches the eye. On ground that was on the soft side, he was 4th. The winner was Echoes in Rain and the runner up was Belfast Banter and we know both of them have franked the form in no uncertain terms. He was only 4L behind BB that day in receipt of just 1lb. BB is now rated 144 and Jessie Evans runs off 127.
Another horse that interests me is Mighty Tom who is currently a reserve but if he can get in I’ll have a saver on him as he was 2L behind Jessie Evans in that race and is 4lbs better off. Currently 25/1 5 places 20/1 7 places.

    5.25
The 2nd Grade 1 of the day and should be a cracker.
I dont think CPS ran his race at Cheltenham,. There wasn’t a strong enough pace to benefit his high cruising speed and he didn’t look like he enjoyed the Hill. With Allaho in the field, I think he’ll set it up perfectly for him and I think he will win. I also think Nube Negra is overpriced and will finish ahead of Allaho. So it will be CPS win CPS Nube Negra S/F.

    5.55
The first of the bumpers and not much to go on here. Nonbinding is a half brother to Ferny Hollow so should be one for the notebooks but I’ve had a small ew on Hollington at 12s for Stuart Crawford who is also well bred and the trainer has been doing well with his bumper horses across the pond and can ready one fto.

    6.30
    Monkfish v Envoi Allen
The 2 best Novice Chasers in training go head to head…..oh no sorry….the 2nd and 3rd best Novice chasers. Of course the best Novice is Royal Pagaille (absolute lunacy) !!!
There isn’t a Novice within 7lbs of either of these 2 horses.
I just hope both run to their potential. Time and time again when such a match up something happens with either a late withdrawal or one falls early on. I’d actually pay sky box office to watch these 2 face off, be better than some of the boxing matches they’ve been putting on.
    Who will win??
I won’t be having a bet, just sitting back and watching with great interest. If you were to put a gun to my head I’d side with Envoi Allen but only just.

    7.00
Youcannotbeserious hasn’t run since this festival 2 years ago when he finished 2nd, but Enda Bolger is the master of the banks here and I’m sure he’ll be ready with Derek O Connor doing the steering. Not much of a price though at 4/5

7.35 Very little to go on, the market will be the best guide so no bet

Great write ups DC regarding Envoi Allen I would certainly like to see him more settled at the start he definitely wasnt himself maybe to fizzy with the big ish gap from his last run and possibly moving stable.
Great few days class racing alot of small fields but full of quality and Mullins does like to eat up all the place money aswell.
      GL 👍

Yes Envoi was a bit lit up at Cheltenham. I am putting it down to the stable move and hopefully he will be back to his best. It will also be interesting to see how Rachael gets on with him. Envoi is the only reason Davy Russell hasn’t retired yet. For him to say its the best horse he’s ever been on is some statement. Monkfish was dirt at Cheltenham and did everything but fall in the RSA but they are just 2 class horses and we’re privileged to see them going head to head. Just wished we didn’t have covid and I could go see it in the flesh….oh well.

Decent day yesterday and well done the winners just wait on Punchestown now.

    I’m in a Trixie with…

    Echoes In The Rain…4.15 4/5
(Tempting now for a single but I’ll just hope for a good start from a horse that’s improving so quickly)

Chacun Pour Soi…5.25. 6/4(on the drift but and least confident pick but hoping Allaho doesn’t have the same speed over 2m )

Monkfish…6.30 11/10 (***** my main bet and I love Envoi Allen bar his last effort but I just think Monkfish is the daddy here)

GL all…some great racing for sure in store.
