Yesterday's sole runner of the day ran a belter, but wasn't good enough to win the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter as he bumped into another Irish runner who won with plenty in hand. Young Dev was held up throughout the entire race, under a confident 7lb claimer. He crept through the field on the final circuit, stayed on well, but had a little too much to do. Place money nonetheless at odds of 14/1 is something you can't complain about.
Chepstow 4:10
Looking through the cards for Sunday, and nothing really caught my eye as value, other than WHITEHOTCHILLIFILI who is just under EVS. Tipping odds-on shots isn't something I'm a big fan of, but the fact she is just a shade of odds-on is seen to be great value in my eyes, as she is the class in the race, and should be much shorter.
If you look through the form of this Mare, it's head and shoulders above what the others have been up against, so the fact she hasn't won since last January isn't a surprise. She is already a Class 1 Listed Mares winner, which was her last win, where she beat Stormy Ireland. In all fairness, Stormy Ireland wasn't the same horse that she was when she was trained by Willie Mullins (was transferred to Paul Nicholls) and now she is trained by Willie again, but she beat her in good style that day, and that is the best form available. Like I mentioned earlier, since that race she has been pitched into some very tough races, and that's down to the fact that she had no alternatives due to her rating. But with that, has come some good performances in defeat. The form of the Ascot race in the Grade 2 won by Molly Ollys Wishes looks levels above this field, with My Sister Sarah finishing second.
The soft ground she'll encounter is a big positive, as she wasn't seen to best effect at Warwick in the Listed race which was won by this years Mares' Hurdle winner, Marie's Rock. The return to a handicap and soft ground will make her tough to beat. If short priced horses aren't what you're liking, then possibly she's one to put in a double or multiple.
