Alan Thomson fancies a Borders chaser to win again at Musselburgh on Sunday's racing action.

HASTRUBAL (3.50) fairly hacked up at Sedgefield last month and is strongly fancied to land short odds for Sandy Thomson in the 3m 2f handicap chase on day two at Musselburgh.

Southern stables scooped the two major prizes on offer yesterday and they are likely to dominate again in the bet365 Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Paul Nicholls strips his dual winner Wild Max for action and there was much to like about the way he pulled clear of Nick Henderson’s France De Reve at Taunton. The runner-up flopped next time at Doncaster and Wild Max may be worth opposing at short odds. FRED (2.15) stepped up to the plate with an impressive Kempton victory on Boxing Day following a couple of placed efforts at Cheltenham and Ascot. Malystic strode clear over course and distance earlier in the season but was no match for the Philip Hobbs-trained Pileon over a longer trip at Catterick. The winner looks useful and Malystic should go well.

The bet365 Scottish Triumph Hurdle is a cracker, with Keith Dalgleish’s course winner El Picador flying the home flag. GOA LIL (1.45) has a good bit to find with Thyme White on their running behind Rowland Ward at Kempton over Christmas but a change to front-running tactics worked a treat for Goa Lil last time. He could be difficult to catch. Group Stage ran well enough in defeat at Cheltenham in mid-December to be a serious contender.

Scottish-owned HIGHLAND HUNTER (3.20) will not go unsupported in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle. Highland Hunter is a strong stayer so this 3m 2f trip should suit on his second start for Nicholls since leaving Lucinda Russell. Keeper Hill split Frodon and Top Notch over fences at Kempton last month and ran possibly his best race over hurdles at Aintree last April when third to Aux Ptits Soins. Another to consider is impressive course winner Fred The Foot, while Rocket Lad showed up for a long way before being pulled up in the Grade 2 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham won in convincing fashion by Harry Senior.

Beat Caribbean Lotus by 7L who was then a subsequent winner next time out by 8 1/2L.
Joseph rates this one highly and will give the odds on Elliott horse, a listed winner, something to think about.
