Racing tips: Roy’s boy can toy with sprinters at Southwell

Alan Thomson has a brace of bets earmarked for both midweek all-weather fixtures at Southwell and Kempton today.

Southwell 4.35

TRAINER Roy Bowring was one of the original Southwell all-weather pioneers and although his stable numbers have decreased in recent years, he can still pop in winners on the Fibresand.

DECISION MAKER (4.35) looks a penalty kick for the Bowring yard in the 6f handicap, with a 5lb penalty unlikely to prevent him supplementing his recent wide-margin victory over course and distance.

Robsdelight won a Class 6 event over this trip here 20 days ago and is the danger.

Kempton 7.30

The 2m handicap at Kempton is competitive and MONTJENI (7.30) is worth an each-way punt on the strength of his fourth to hot favourite Vibrance over course and distance last month.

His trainer Ian Williams previously handled likely favourite Manjaam, so should have a handle on Montjeni's chances.

Manjaam was expected to make a winning debut for David Loughnane at Wolverhampton when sent off market leader but failed to cope with Running Cloud.

Old boy Continuum rolled back the years when hacking up here over this distance from subsequent winners Amanto and Estrela Star. He has never been the most consistent of stayers but must go well if Peter Hedger has the 11-year-old in the same mood.
