Yesterday was a good day for the thread, as both selections were winners! Advised at 2/1 for both winners, with Powerstown Park winning at a drifted price of 9/4 and Black Poppy being extremely well backed into 5/6. Finger's crossed today's selections can run well and keep up the good results from yesterday.

Newcastle 3:30

A bit of an obscure selection in this race, and one which you'll be able to get some decent prices for is, DEO BELLATOR. The Northern Irish trained horse makes his second appearance on this side of the Irish Sea, and could upset the British contingency in what appears to be a bang average race.

It's interesting that S Michael Millar has brought him back over to the UK after what happened at Ayr back in November. On that day, he was kicked by another runner at the start, and even though he was checked by the vets and they cleared him to run, it clearly had an impact on him, as he made no impression whatsoever. I think that it didn't help his chances, but also the fact he was rated 102, when previously being rated 89 in Ireland, was another factor to a poor run. He is now rated 92 in the UK, which is a big help, as he ran a good race of 89 from his last race in Ireland in October. The time before, he won off a mark of 82, and he did it quite cosily. Mr N Gault takes the ride, so a further 7lbs is taken off, so effectively runs off 85. I think he will be overlooked in the market, but that's always dangerous when one comes over from Northern Ireland/Ireland, as they don't send them over for the fun of it.

The ground looks to be fine for him, whereas some in this race would want it slightly softer, which includes some of the main market fancies.

Ffos Las 3:50

Backing a JP McManus horse is never something I'm fond of, especially in a lower rated handicap race, as he is extremely dodgy, and you never know if they're going to be trying to the maximum. However, the fact that the money was down on ROCK ON RITA last time out at Doncaster on handicap debut, suggests they were hoping for a big run. Unfortunately for them, it didn't quite work out, but the drop back in trip could see her in a better light.

She was keen last time out, which is why a shorter trip will be better, as they will more than likely go a stronger gallop, which should allow her to settle. She travelled nicely into the race, but didn't quite see out the 3m trip, which isn't a surprise on a track like Doncaster, which is a testing and galloping track, with a very long straight. She has been dropped 4lbs for that run, which is nice to see, as it will obviously make life a little easier for her in this race, which is weak, as you'd expect in a Class 5 0-105 handicap.
