Racing tips: Rock Of Star needs to be heavily respected off a low weight

Yesterday's double lost with Flann being unable to get past the winner after having plenty of time to do so and looking like it was going to happen.

Flann was very weak in the market, opening up as an odds-on shot, before going off at 9/4, so if he won the double would've paid a fair bit more. He was giving away around 2 stone to the eventual winner, so the weight probably got to him in the final furlong.

Looking at the bare stats next to the horses names, you'd have a couple in this who you'd think will be the ones to be involved in the finish, but when you look into it, ROCK OF STAR has solid credentials and I think he could easily win this.

When looking at the price of the market as it opened around 9/2 was available for Alex Dunn's horse, which was annoying as I was expected slightly bigger, so to see him being backed in by another point is frustrating as I thought I found a decent priced horse. Either way, I'm still going to be backing him, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him drift back out.

This horse has only raced twice over fences, and other than the one blunder where he fell jumped well and looks like a horse who could win over fences. His run on debut where he was trying to get into contention before he fell was a good effort and the form of that race has worked out extremely well. The winner went on to win again and then finished second off a mark of 138 which was 17lbs more than when he won at Chepstow. The runner-up finished second at Cheltenham on his next start and there have been other winners in behind.

I think you can give him a bit of slack for his last run at Uttoxeter as he was held up and it was tough to make up the ground that day on extremely soft ground (described as heavy), but he was travelling well and this drop in trip might be better suited for him over the larger obstacles.

To mention the others in the race:

Harlem Soul – gets 7lb claimer to help his chances, but is up in the weights and down in trip, which isn't going to help. He battered Midnight Midge when they last met, but with the weights being closer this time and back in trip I expect it to be a lot closer between the pair.

Midnight Midge – Consistent horse for the most part, and the form of his recent runner-up looks good, but carrying 12st isn't an easy task and he is now 0-6 when running off a handicap mark of 120+. Though this doesn't look a strong race on paper, I still think he is vulnerable.

Triple Trade – Interesting runner, who is starting to look potentially well treated off his current handicap mark. His recent form figures don't look great, but he was in the midst of running a decent race on chase debut before falling two from home. Can't be ignored, and wouldn't surprise me to see him winning, but I couldn't be confident.
