Racing seems harder than ever recently, the 200/1 winner at Hamilton even suggests that. Today's racing looks equally as tough, but you know every horse at Epsom over the next couple of days are there to win, rather than be non-triers. With that being said, I've reduced my stakes for the next couple of days.

Epsom 2:35

Runner Jacket Trainer: Richard Hannon

Jockey: Sean Levey

Form: 670374

In a race of this nature with 16 runners you're going to need luck in running, unless you're a front runner. OH THIS IS US is drawn wide in stall 14 so will have to be ridden for luck, but there could be a pace collapse in this if the likes of Corazon Espinado (won this race last year) and Excel Power decide to go on and push for the lead.

Richard Hannon's 9yo has ran well at this track in previous years, including a win during last season off a mark of 108 in a Group 3. He's obviously not the force of old but does normally run his race and is reliable, so as long as he gets a clear passage I can envisage a big run on the cards off a reduced mark of 92. He is shorter in the market than what I was hoping for, as I was expecting some of the younger more unexposed horses being close to favourtism, but it doesn't put me off as the odds are still good enough for a bet.

I wouldn't go crazy on the stakes if you are following me through this extremely bad run of form, as at Epsom you will get hard luck stories, but from a wide stall I don't think he'll get pinched on the rail and should enjoy the fairly long straight to get into top gear and make a run from the outside.

Epsom 3:10

Runner Jacket Trainer: Charlie Appleby

Jockey: William Buick

Form: 111-12

It's funny how one defeat and a horse can be priced up at a decent enough price. I think that's happened to MANOBO with his defeat at Meydan as he is currently second favourite in this race and is above 2/1 which makes him a reasonable bet in this.

His defeat wasn't even a bad performance and it was over a trip which I think isn't him optimal distance. Many thought he was a 2m horse in the middle of last year and they got carried away with it, but this horse has a lot of speed and that's why I always thought he would be better over middle distance trips.

I think this race could be set up perfectly for him with a decent pace on the cards with High Definition and Living Legend seen as the pace angles. On form, you'd have to say Pyledriver is the main danger hence why he is priced up as favourite, he is the highest rated in the race and handles this track when winning this race last year. Manobo is still very lightly raced and has so much potential.

Epsom 3:45

Runner Jacket Trainer: Ian Williams

Jockey: William Buick

Form: 404-12

Another trappy contest where a lot of these have a good chance, but with the extra places on offer I believe CAP FRANCAIS offers good EW value for a horse who is in good form and is still on a decent enough handicap mark.

He was quite well fancied late on when winning on seasonal appearance at Newmarket where he got up late in the race to win. The form of that race now looks good with the 4th (Forest Falcon) winning yesterday and the 7th (Lucander) winning earlier in the week, as well as the 8th (Anythingtoday) running well since. His next race was a very good effort and the ground he made up was impressive considering he had an awkward start and was only beaten by a length by an inform horse who had the run on him.

With a likely good gallop being set in this, he should be able to be dragged through the race and put in a good late surge.

Epsom 5:45

Runner Jacket Trainer: David O'Meara

Jockey: Danny Tudhope

Form: 56-0437

DARKNESS has been put up by myself on a couple of occasions this season, where he was disappointing on the first run for me and then rather unlucky on the second time and based on his Ascot run I think he is capable of landing a nice pot at some point during the season, and I'm hoping today is the one.

He won a few times when trained in France, and has been warming to the task with each run this season. He does stay slightly further than 7f, but I think 7f will be his best trip in a big field handicap as it will allow him to have a good pace to aim at and run on strongly. He is drawn in 10, and doesn't really run close to the pace so will have to be ridden for some luck, which is the case for a lot of horses tomorrow, but if they do go a good gallop, which they should then he will be staying on late in the race. I think the form of the Ascot race is strong, and with a clear run in that race I think he would've been in the places.

Catterick 3:29

Runner Jacket Trainer: Paul Midgley

Jockey: Graham Lee

Form: 5-8193

With around 25mm of rain expecting to hit Catterick, you're going to need a horse who stays well and handles the ground. Both of which go hand in hand with PROSPECT who has been in good form since moving over to the Midgley yard.

He ran well last time in a Class 3 handicap at Thirsk where the winner has gone on to win again. His front running style looks tailor made for Catterick and if getting an uncontested lead, he could be tough to peg back. There are some good handicappers in this, but they might not be able to cope with a younger horse who is starting to look progressive for his new yard off a fairly lenient mark of 76.

      ADMIN.
unfortunately I can’t make it on Sunday.
As you know Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 have a huge game v Ukraine and I simply can’t miss that with a chance to qualify for the first time since 1958.
I’m going on the train to southwell on Monday for a summer jumps meeting instead, to sober up most likely.

Please donate to another contestant I wish them a prosperous day at the races 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Tuesday won Elvis and will only get better, well done the winners.

  18. elvis parsley 2 years ago

Yes I know Tuesday won Alex 😄

Also noticeable the first 4 in the betting were placed 1-4 in this 11 runner field.

Very rare you see that happen in that all weather nonsense racing.

Backs up what rizzles said above about horses being here to win and not tamper with their handicap mark.

Forgot to add well done BUS STOP, 3 winners at decent odds and looks like I put the mockers on your last by picking it myself ☹️
