NAKEETA (4.35) can no longer hit the heights of his 2017 Ebor Handicap victory but the nine-year-old has been given a chance by the assessor at soggy Musselburgh.
Iain Jardine’s gelding ran fifth to Bollin Joan at Ripon last time, beaten around two lengths, and this looks an easier test. Nakeeta was doing some good late work over an inadequate 12 furlongs and this step up to two miles, plus a 3lb drop, could well revive his fortunes. Stormin Norman scored over course and distance last month and remains well enough treated after a 2lb rise.
DANDY’S ANGEL (1.30) sprung a 22-1 surprise at Catterick nine days ago and third horse Soaring Star scored with plenty of conviction at Ayr on Monday. Reely Bonnie belied odds of 25-1 to score on debut at Ayr and should stay this extra furlong. Grace And Virtue split Amy Murphy’s Nirodha and Magical Moment at Haydock, while Yukon Mission’s latest placed effort at Pontefract gives her every chance in an interesting event.
LADY CALCARIA (2.00) responded to the first-time cheek-pieces to run The Armed Man close at Haydock and has handled a yielding surface well in the past. Tim Easterby’s filly is well drawn in stall two. Bibidibobbidiboo keeps threatening to supplement her course and distance success of two years ago and seems to go well on turning 7f tracks like Catterick and Musselburgh. Gweedore coped with testing ground when fourth to Granite City Doc at Hamilton and has been running consistently in defeat this summer.
MILITIA (3.30) did extremely well to overcome his very wide draw over five furlongs at Chester 12 days ago and can complete his hat-trick at the main expense of Glory Fighter, another seeking his third straight victory for Ayr owner Ken MacPherson.
HILLGROVE ANGEL (4.05) can further boost a successful week for Jim Goldie by landing the Class 6 handicap over 1m 4f. His gelding briefly struck the front over a furlong out at Catterick last week but couldn’t quite match strides with Snookered. The soft ground was no impediment that day. Millie The Minx has won her last two at Hamilton and clearly rates a threat if as effective at this track.
