MUTALAHEF (7.30) makes some appeal on his belated seasonal reappearance at Kempton this evening.
This isn't a strong Novice Stakes and Mutalahef caught the eye on debut at Kempton just after Christmas, running on into second spot after a sluggish start. Marcus Tregoning and Jim Crowley have enjoyed plenty of success in the blue and white Hamdan Al Maktoum colours and this could be another one.
With York on the horizon I'll be playing cannily at Beverley, but CABALLERO (3.30) is worth an each-way punt at the prices. Keith Dalgleish often targets the track with his handicappers and Caballero is definitely well treated these days.
The gelding's career has been blighted by long absences and he seems to need quick ground to show his best. He hacked up by almost three lengths in a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket in 2018 when on a mark of 82. The assessor has dropped Caballero to 74 and his last run at York when fourth to Golden Force hinted at a revival of fortunes. Runner-up Confide scored at Newbury a couple of days ago and a dry forecast offers hope that the Yorkshire track will be riding pretty slick. Several firms are offering four places.
