BOLLIN JOAN(4.25) has been a late maturing mare for Tim Easterby but her upward curve can continue in the 1m 4f handicap at Ripon.
She showed resolution to score over course and distance ten days ago, building on a promising run behind useful Award Scheme at York. A 3lb rise is very fair.
MONDAIN (3.50) can be a bit hit and miss but a reproduction of his excellent Ascot second in a hot handicap won by Island Brave would see Mark Johnston's gelding hard to beat. Roger Varian sends three-year-old Zeeband north but Oliver Stammers takes 7lb off Mondain's back which may be crucial.
HESSLEWOOD (2.05) is primed for a big performance in the mile handicap. James Bethell hasn’t run his gelding since a fourth over the extended 1m 1f trip in early July, with Hesslewood threatening to win before weakening in the final furlong. This trip will better suit. In-form Hortzadar is creeping up the handicap but the services of a 5lb apprentice helps.
