Racing tips: Lightly raced One Night Thunder can put it up to the older horses

What a filly Blue Rose Cen is, she put up a monstrous performance in the French Oaks, winning it in great style and in an easier fashion than when she won the Guineas, which was also very impressive.

I won't be getting too involved in racing on Monday as it's Royal Ascot eve and as always, the majority of the racing on Monday is bottom-of-the-barrel kind of stuff.

Lingfield 3:30 – One Night Thunder 10/3 (1pt)

On a day of poor racing, I think focussing on the better class races is the way forward as you know what to expect from the better horses rather than Class 5/6 animals. My first dart of the day landed on One Night Thunder in what does appear to be a tricky race on paper.

Though this is a Class 3 (0-95), it is basically a 0-97 as the top weight is 97 rated, but not only that, I'd say it's quite an underwhelming race as I think the older horses have a lot of questions to answer. For the life of me, I don't understand why Sea The Casper is the favourite. Yeah, he finished 2nd to Bellocio last year at Kempton and that horse went on to win a Listed race, but I didn't think he got close to the winner that day and the horses in behind were closing in on him. He also is making his first run of the season, so I'd doubt him being 100% racefit for this, and even if he was, he's carrying 10st 4lbs which is never ideal.

When I saw One Night Thunder win on debut as an odds-on shot, I thought he wouldn't turn into a 90+ rated horse as he scrambled home that day over 7f, but he has improved on his next two starts. Even though he hasn't set the world alight, I still think he is in this race with a good chance if he stays the trip, which is an unknown, but his Sire Night Of Thunder has many progenies staying this trip, so there is optimism for it. I think he's run well against some nice horses in the last two races, the second in the Goodwood race went on to run a good race at Epsom being 3rd behind Regal Reality and in the Goodwood race, One Night Thunder had two 101-rated horses in behind.

Last time out he was ridden prominently, which I'm hoping they do today as Lingfield does often favour those towards the front of the race. I don't think he'll get the lead, but as long as he's in shooting distance that'll do me. With him being the only 3yo in the race he does get a weight-for-age allowance, which is a big help.
