THE young O’Brien brothers, Joseph and Donnacha, take on their old man Aidan with PRETTY GORGEOUS (3.35) and Shale in the Group 1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.
They have clashed three times in Ireland, with Shale boasting a 2-1 advantage, but the ground was soft when Joseph's Pretty Gorgeous beat her quite comfortably at the Curragh in August. If there is plenty of juice underfoot as forecast, Pretty Gorgeous can level the score. John Gosden’s Indigo Girl, winner of the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, looks the pick of the home challenge.
At York, David O’Meara saddles four fancied runners in the 7f handicap, with Shelir, sixth to Montatham over course and distance in August, possibly the pick. However, CHANCE (2.05) ran very well at Sandown last month, chasing home mightily impressive Raaeq, and was a course winner over nine furlongs last season.
The 1m 6f handicap is a cracker and Favorite Moon will have plenty of supporters after sluicing through the Haydock mud to score by more than eight lengths, wearing a tongue-tie for the first time. His one dismal effort this summer came here on the Knavesmire when flopping in the Melrose Handicap, so the vote goes to PRINCE ALEX (2.40). He completed a four-timer for Ralph Beckett at Haydock a fortnight ago and still lingers near the foot of the weights.
We may not have seen the best yet of lightly-raced Strawberry Moon, while Zeeband is on a hat-trick after wins at Ripon and Thirsk.
