EBONY JEWEL (1.30) landed some juicy bets in an Ayr bumper last term and is taken to open his hurdles account at Haydock.
Nick Alexander's gelding didn't hurdle with any fluency when disappointing on his jumping debut but fared better over course and distance earlier this month when third to Marie's Rock, conceding 12lb to Nicky Henderson's four-year-old. Runner-up The Con Man is fancied to land the handicap hurdle later on this card, so it was definitely an improved effort from Ebony Jewel.
LAKEVIEW (2.10) was sent off an unconsidered 66-1 chance for a Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton on seasonal debut but was by no means disgraced in filling second spot behind hot favourite Batchelor Boy. That was his first start in 246 days and David Loughnane's gelding gets in at the foot of the weights in the nursery at Lingfield.
