Asymmetric was very poor at Deauville, maybe he bounced on the back of his win last time out, but I'm not too sure. However, Ocean Quest put in a huge performance to win at Naas and win in great style.
Ripon 4:10 – Isla Kai 4/1 (1pt Bet365)
It's bank holiday Monday and there's plenty of racing on but nothing screams out a worthwhile bet apart from Isla Kai up at Ripon.
Nigel Tinkler's horse has dropped through the handicap this year after competing at a decent level the last two years in some good handicaps. Running off a mark of 89 puts him 1lb lower than his recent win which came over today's C&D in April so he's evidently on a good mark. He is best effective on slow ground, Ripon did get a bit of rain on Sunday night so the ground might be riding on the slow side of good, but nothing crazy. But, with him being well-handicapped I think any juice in the ground will be enough for him to have a big run.
He is best over a mile, so to see him run so well over 7f last time out was very encouraging, even with a 7lb claimer on board meaning he is heavier today in the handicap. That was a tough handicap and a Class 2 so this is definitely a drop in class and with usual jockey Rowan Scott back on top that is a huge positive. He likes to sit up with the pace, and there should be a good pace set with the likes of Garden Oasis in the lineup, Isla Kai beat that horse when he won in April and he followed the pace and then booted for home so I expect something similar to happen today.
