Racing tips: Improve your betting bank with Beating The Odds

After many days of selections not running due to the weather, we finally got a runner. However, it didn't end up with a winner. Lady Percival got the lead as I was hoping for and ran a decent race, travelling better than many when turning for home but she got swallowed up.

I saw on social media that it wasn't a good day for the front runners at Wolverhampton with the bias tending to lean towards those who were held up, which was the case for the 66/1 winner in my race. I thought she ran a creditable race in defeat and probably did run to form, but based on the track bias for yesterday she might be worth another chance off her current handicap mark.

Punchestown 3:10

Jumps racing is back and there looks like a strong possibility that Punchestown will go ahead on Monday with some much warmer temperatures floating around. I'm a jumps man at heart so I will be siding with a selection in Ireland over the AW meetings.

I think that whenever Charles Byrnes has a runner in a race the market overreacts and the bookies run scared, often pricing his horses up shorter than they would normally be. Temptationinmilan clearly has a decent chance in this, arriving to this race in good form, but whether the form is anything to shout about, I'm not so sure. The horses in the mix on the last couple of runs haven't exactly franked the form too much and they are often running close to each other when they do race against one another, so 11/4 might be on the short side. For me, I like the look of the second-priced favourite, BEATING THE ODDS.

This 9yo is very lightly raced, especially over fences where he is yet to score from six outings. Those numbers don't bother me as I thought his most recent run was a very good effort, and the difference between the levels in form for me is that he was beaten by a progressive horse, but he wasn't disgraced by finishing 3L behind him. The winner cruised past him but didn't get away by miles and at the end, it looked like Beating The Odds was staying on again, so the extra 2f he faces today looks like a positive. That was his first run in 306 days and the market wasn't exactly speaking too much in his favour as he went off at odds of 14/1, so I get the impression he was entitled to have needed that run.

I personally don't like taking on the Charles Byrnes, as he is one of the great master gamblers, but he doesn't land a gamble every time he has a horse run and you can't run scared if you fancy another horse, so I'll be putting my money on the line.
