RICHARD HUGHES puts the bookies on red alert whenever he mounts a raid at Southwell and BRENNER PASS (5.20) fits the bill in the opening six-furlong handicap.
The colt chased home hot favourite Royal Context over course and distance in a novice stakes last September and may have the edge over Puchita, a three-time course and distance scorer.
MACKELLY (7.20) should be another for that man Hughes, with the gelding’s emphatic course and distance victory over Ben Lilly working out very well. Grandscape, another course and distance winner, has joined Ali Strong from Ed Dunlop and has gone well fresh in the past.
CHARLIE ARTHUR (6.50) won three on the trot for Hughes over a mile at Southwell last season and has since run very well in defeat after being upped to 1m 4f at Kempton. Cedar Cage has scored here over seven furlongs for Sir Mark Prescott and is a danger, along with Durrell and a couple of others in an open contest.
Hughsie also sends out Beastie Boy in the nursery on the back of a respectable sixth in a hot novice stakes at Sandown and it will be interesting to see how the market reacts on handicap debut.
