Racing. Is. Back.
After an enforced layoff it's great to see horse racing back on Monday at Newcastle with a bumper ten race card. We need to tread very carefully in these first few days and weeks whilst we see which trainers and horses (and tipsters!) have coped best with the extended layoff but there are still a couple of potential value bets to be found.
This has the potential to be a good race and the one I like is ICE PYRAMID. His claims are obvious as a Newcastle regular where he has won twice from four visits and has never been out of the top three. I think 4-1 is a fair price and it might also be worth putting him in a small each way double with my second selection.
Before I looked at the prices Frankly Darling was the one who stood out, particularly on breeding and connections but we don't want to be anywhere near odds on shots in these early days after a return to racing. There is more depth to this race than the stats suggest and I like the look of FLAMES OF YORK for the Karl Bruke stable. This gelding wasn't beaten far in a decent novice race back in July and several of his opponents that day have won since. That was his debut and he wasn't given a tough time of it but ran on nicely after being outpaced. The three furlong step up in trip will be ideal and his double figure price looks too big to me. A bit of money for him in the market would really boost my confidence too.
I hope everyone enjoys the return of racing but remember to take it easy with your staking – the flat season will be a marathon not a sprint, if you'll pardon the pun. Good luck!
