Fairlawn Flyer was a winner for the thread yesterday at drifted odds of 6/1 which has continued our recent good form. He looked a bit outpaced at stages, but his stamina proved too strong for the rest as he powered through the soft ground.

I get the feeling that LADY TREMAINE is a horse who could be slightly better than her current rating of 108, and now she is back against her own sex, she will find it much easier to wins races. I thought her run last time at Bangor was a good performance, and she looked a true stayer over the minimum trip, showing that a real test of stamina would be ideal for her over 2m. With the ground at Chepstow being described as ‘Heavy' it should mean that any horses who are not strong finishers will be found out, and I get the feeling that the selection will be staying on when others are going backwards. She is a 7yo but is a lightly raced one, with her only having four runs over rules. The form of her recent win looks a little weak at a first glance, but the fact the front two pulled clear of the third suggests that it can be better than it first looks. Also, the second horse was quite strongly backed before the off, so connections of that one clearly thought he was going to run a big race. After that win at Bangor, Donald McCain mentioned that “she's the type to pull herself up in front, not ideal in a race where whips couldn't be used”, so I think the performance can be rated higher.

I recently tipped up Tip Top Cat, and that horse obliged by running a big race under young jockey, Liam Harrison, and won when a lot went wrong in that race. The form of the race he won prior to that recent win now looks strong as the runner-up went on to win next time out. HELIOS ALLEN was third in that race at Exeter behind the two subsequent winners, and I think that piece of form is strong, and he can be another one to boost that specific form line. They've decided to drop him back in trip, and even though that seems slightly strange as he was staying on strongly last time over further, it means that he will be staying on very strongly in the tough conditions today, which is always a bonus. He might struggle with the pace, but he will grind away and come back to them eventually, on ground which he has handles in the past over this C&D. A mark of 115 still looks within his reach and I expect a big run from the lightly raced 5yo.

I am a big fan of Venetia Williams as a trainer, as you may already know from me recently tipping up a few of her runners, and I expect GEMIRANDE to run a big race today, now he is having his second run of the season. Venetia's horses generally run much better when the ground is soft/heavy, so the fact this lad has been backed into favourite is no surprise. She has done very well in recent years with French recruits, and this lad can be another success story now the ground looks to be in his favour. He was a Chase winner on chase debut in France on ‘Very Soft' ground, and his only chase run since was on his seasonal reappearance where he finished runner-up, where it looked apparent that he was in need of the run as his finishing effort petered out.
Taking the Christmas decorations down so I hope these will cheer me up later. 🎄
